Posted: 7/27/11 at 12:14amNo dates were taken off sale, they've never been selling performances beyond September 4th. At this point, though, that does make it seem likely they'll be closing then.

Posted: 7/27/11 at 12:27amCould just be that they're getting ready to release another block. It's doing about 80% capacity, which isnt bad, and its grosses arent so terrible either.

Was just going to say that. Not selling tickets past a certain doesn't always mean it's closing. Personally, I would wait for an official announcement before starting any threads.

Posted: 7/27/11 at 12:41amHmmm... It could just be they are waiting to see how they fare through the rest of the summer before deciding whether or not to stick it out through the holidays.

Posted: 7/27/11 at 1:01amWhy would you post a headline like this when it's just your own speculation? Even a question mark at the end would have absolved you from being so irresponsible.

Posted: 7/27/11 at 1:10amA lot of people of jumped the gun before. It happens. 80% capacity isn't shabby. And it sounds like from what some people are saying on here that they're holding back a little to see if selling another block would be profitable. At the very least this thread has provided some education. Thanks to all.

First of all, yes, a question mark at the end of the header - otherwise it makes it seem like this has been officially announced, which it most assuredly has not.
Second, eighty percent is the wrong number to look at. They're actually doing about forty-seven percent of what money could be coming in were they actually selling tickets. They've been comping and discounting heavily and all that gets factored into the 80%, which is a kind of meaningless number. Just look at the average ticket price and the percentage of box-office sales.
All that said, put the damn question mark in the header. This show is running and has not announced anything to the contrary and until they do this is a non-news item and a silly one.

Posted: 7/27/11 at 1:52amAre company members given unlimited comps? I've always wondered about that kind of stuff.

And then transferring to New World Stages, I assume?

Posted: 7/27/11 at 4:15am^ correct. They will be doing a time share with Million Dollar Quartet. Creative teams from both shows are meeting up to design a new set and new costumes that can accommodate BOTH shows. They will even be using some of the same cast members. On Saturday afternoons they will be doing a double feature where act 1 is Million Dollar Quarter and act 2 is Baby, It's You. No word on rush or lotto yet!

They probably haven't released a new block of tickets yet because of the schedule change they have this summer. Though, not having new tickets up yet may seem like a hint at closing (which I honestly hope this schlock would...)

"Unless there is some sort of OFFICIAL announcement, this thread is wrong."
It's not. The house staff were told by the production that the show is closing Sept. 4 a few weeks ago. I'm surprised it hasn't been officially announced. Perhaps they're hoping for a miracle?

There are strategies involved in when to tell the company and when to tell the public.
Also, I'm tired of folks saying the only number to look at is "gross potential" True, it is more telling than capacity, but only a dumb producer would produce a show that needs to be making at least 80% of its gross potential to survive.

Posted: 7/27/11 at 12:58pmSince they have made capacity include comps, it is a meaningless number - so why should anyone look at? Comps are comps - everyone can be playing at 100% if they comp the entire house. Doesn't mean much, but since they decided to add freebies into that percentage they made it a pretty meaningless thing. Look at the average ticket price and the gross potential because they tell a more accurate story in every case for every show.

bk- Absolutely correct. I'm just saying, generally, an unremarkable gross potential doesn't necessarily equate mayday.

They also have the second lowest average ticket price of any musical (third if you consider Rain to be a musical)... and it's been that way for a while. Of course the house will be full when the tickets are cheap.
Well, except for Hair.
