Very lackluster new musical season, so it kind of is a smart move. But I hope they beef it up for Broadway. Hate to pay Broadway prices to see a show that belongs off-Broadway (like Scottsboro Boys).

Another observation from this past weekend: the teenage audience members were very well-behaved, and all the recent reports on audience behavior in the main BMC thread have said the same thing.

That’s so good to hear. I was at the third preview and there were an alarming amount of straight up squealing both before the show started and from those waiting for the cast. I’m pleased to hear that it’s become more subdued. I really support theater that draws in younger audiences, but I also support teaching and keeping up a certain level respect in the theater.
If they want any sort of a success, theres got to be some cast changes. I like Will Roland, but I found that his voice doesnt really fit the show.
It'll play the Lyceum in February, March at the latest and close after not winning any major awards.
Also that authors bio at the end of the article. WOOF! Tacky. Tacky. Tacky.
Where is the algorithm for that?
Lyceum is all wrong for this show. But maybe it will find an audience.
Not surprising. I sure have doubts about it translating its fandom into actual ticketbuyers, though. Unlike, say, Hamilton- which I've seen at least one article attempt to compare Be More Chill to- this show's devotion seems to exist solely in one, admittedly sizable, bubble. I'm not seeing many people outside that bubble care much about it. It has almost zero presence in my social media- and my social circle is mostly comprised of actors and people in the industry.

I can't stop laughing at this. Way too accurate. All their target audience talks about on social media is how they can't afford to see these shows, but then says how Mean Girls was robbed of the Best Musical Tony Award. I honestly feel bad sometimes haha.

This "transfer" (if it were to happen) has Ken Davenport written all over it.
OK kids, let's have a bit of a reality check: have we not yet learned that saying a show is coming in does not always (and more often than not, does not) mean it is actually coming in.
Also, this actually has none of Ken Davenport written all over it. But why fret over details and facts?
it is 100% transferring to Broadway and going into the Lyceum. Announcement next week
I preface this by saying I have never seen the show. But the rabidness of the fans on social media absolutely terrifies me and I hope that there is some kind of plan in place to protect the actors from fan craziness (a la the people who stalked Slater after Spongebob).

Be sure and come back after next week and admit you were wrong.
And if he's right?
It will run for a month, and the Whats next for the lyceum thread will pop up.
I think it’d do okay on Broadway. We are all thirsty for something new and interesting. This season is so ............ ??
I'm genuinely really surprised by the animosity from this board towards this show. As a whole, Be More Chill is lightyears better than Head Over Heels or Gettin' The Band, and it is so fresh and vibrant, with a fanbase that adores it. While the theater at Signature only seats 300, the fact they sold that out in one fell swoop is a bit remarkable. Every critic liked it except Brantley. It has all the makings of an underdog hit.
Will it be a huge blockbuster? Probably not. Will it win a ton of Tonys? Probably not. But the way I look at it, is if Hadestown, Jagged Little Pill, or Moulin Rouge don't come in this season, why don't we allow a genuinely good show to have a moment to shine?
For me its not the show its more the fans im dreading. Sure the show is good, and its a hell of a lot better than some of the crap thats playing now. But once the fan base come, and I find the be more chill “stans” to be more crazy than the Heathers “stans” the shows gonna go to chaos. But of course, we survived the Brendon Urie Kinky boots fans, so I guess we might survive this one.
Also, im sure this is just me over thinking yet again, but ive noticed alot of broadway “names” visiting the show these last couple of days. Examples are, Laura osnes, Andrew Keenan Bolger, etc.
It would be smart to replace some of the cast, I know they read really old but like the people cast right now look nothing like 15 year olds, so mabye no one will care?

A couple years ago, I wanted to make a comment on an off-topic thread I’d seen about the movie Manchester by the Sea. I put the movie title in the search bar, selected “off-topic,” and got a bunch of nonsense. When I searched on google I immediately got the right result.
Suggesting that people might find relevant threads by searching here is absurd.

This is where I'm at. The show might very well be good--I won't judge it yet. But the fanbase verges on toxic on the best of days from what I see on Twitter and Tumblr. My fear is it will be the Brendon Urie fans on steroids, coupled with even more outlandish behavior from the youngest.
As a musical theater actor and activist (if that's a thing?), I'm really happy to see the art form still alive and well and "trendy." I mean, all for it. So I hope it finds success. This season is so lackluster, and without the show from the Public transferring, the season is wide-open.

I have no animosity to the show whatsoever. I don't know anything about it. What I DO know is that it was not capitalized as of the other day, that it has no names attached to it as producers, that the Shuberts don't book uncapitalized shows with unknown producers, and that if all of the pieces suddenly fell into place, there's no one here to make a deal this week. So what do we have: a rumor, that may or may not be based on someone's aspirational expression of a dream. Could I be dead wrong? Yes. Is it likely? No.

Toxic? Seriously? I went to the matinee Sunday. It is very clear this show truly resonates with its target audience. But to a person, everyone was well behaved and the whole thing had a very positive vibe. Unless some of you will be working security at the theater it ends up at, what exactly will you be needing to "survive"?

Wow, that is quite the pairing to be better than... two shows losing money hand over fist.
