Honey, I saw Night Music in February. And I have friends on this site that can confirm it...I got to talk to CZJ after the show and took a picture of her, and I can post it if you want.
The only musical I haven't seen on Broadway is The Addams Family, and this is a statement I could've said last month.
I wanted to hear the score live *again*, I saw Night Music in California one time, and then on Broadway, once in February, and then, last Thursday.

I just wanna go on record as saying Catherine Zeta Jones gets younger every year. The woman is 50 if she's a day.
Perhaps she has a picture in the attic.
I myself look forward to Muscle's opinions. I rarely agree with him, but he is a contrarian, and this country owes a lot to contrarianism and the fearless expression of contrary opinions.
He has as much right to dislike Bernadette Peters as Namo has to dislike Glee.
And I bet Namo will agree with me, no?
I think my favorite part of this whole post is when muscle said Ramona Mallory had one of the best voices in the cast.

Yes, Namo, she is 50. Amazingly, she was one of the orphans in the original London produciton of ANNIE when she was 20!
As much as I don't agree with muscle on his opinions on Bernadette (he knows she's my fave, lol) I think he shouldn't be attacked because he didn't like her performance and thought leigh Ann Larkin was good in the show. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion, and people should respect that.
muscle is certainly entitled to his opinion, but his analysis of Peters as 'miscast' based simply on comparing her intrinsic qualities to those of CZJ indicates a certain lack of familiarity with the actual script and the actresses who played the role prior to Miss Jones.
I have no problem with him preferring one performance over the other (I for the record thought both CZJ and Peters were wonderful, albeit completely different from each other in type and interpretation) but he should do a little more research first before throwing around such strong phrases as 'miscast.'
Yikes people, overreact much?
I'm sure muscle would have preferred Sarah Brightman in the role.

I don't think it's the fact that he doesn't like Bernadette that's making everyone mad, it's the fact that he basically went from saying he'd never seen the show before to suddenly comparing Bernadette to Catherine.
Although the way he never seems to agree with popular opinion is slightly suspicious; he seems to live on pushing buttons.
People are annoyed because muscle is a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian. He likes to do so simply to stir up controversy.
The great Laurence Olivier could descend from the heavens to do Shakespeare for us, and muscle would dislike the performance and say he was miscast.

Only is Sir Larry reprised his Othello.

Yeah, that's it in a nutshell, and at least for me the reasons he gave to support his opinion. I respect everyone's opinion but he just comes off as calculated. He also has a problem expressing himself, he's constantly back-pedaling and/or covering up obvious discrepancies in his original posts regarding his "intentions" once those discrepancies are discovered. It's hard to take someone like this seriously. But that's just my two cents.
Bernadette is a Queen. In my mind, she can do no wrong.
the age thing is really ridiculous. i met CZJ on the street in Toronto when she was there filming stage stuff for movie Chicago and I her skin looked amazing - you wouldn't even know she smoked or anything...perfection, however, even in her 20s i thought she was older due to her voice and carriage, not her looks. she has matured but really is stunning. as far as casting goes, muscle you know full well that age is not always a factor. the sherry i saw in ROA was 38. playing 17-18? and HAIR...the leads were playing teens as well. not all were in their 20s.
No one is mad that he disliked Bernadette. Everyone's mad because he's a fool. He THRIVES on disagreeing with popular opinion. No one like MEMPHIS; he adored it. Everyone like Bernadette in ALNM; he hated her. And the best part is? Everyone knows exactly what he's going to say before he says it.
And iluvtheatertrash's comment proves it. He just loves to be the dissenting opinion in every matter.

"He just loves to be the dissenting opinion in every matter"
First of all, that's simply your opinion.
Secondly, even if it's true, it only deals with his motivation - which he really doesn't have to justifu anyway.
What it doesn't address is why it annoys and bothers others so much - like you.
Q. Chill out. Everyone is saying the exact same thing as Colorthehours.
Secondly- nobody. likes. a. contrarian. It comes off as a personal attack against things people like.

No, they're not - not even in this thread.
And I was raising points, not screaming, so no need to 'chill' - at least not on my end.
And if people feel personally attacked by a different point of view, the problem is with them.
Maybe read through the whole thread before you make uninformed comments. Compared to what others said (and have said in the past), I was kind.
We're talking about the person who said that the reason Peters and Stritch accepted to do the show was because they were tired of not working, is that an opinion too?
"I don't think Stritch is going to decline"
Of course they won't decline! These 2 women are probably tired of not working.
"Are you being sarcastic?"
Not at all. When's the last time you saw them on Broadway?

I have read the whole thread, and chose to respond to you. So?
And what, exactly, is 'uninformed' about what I said?
"Everyone is saying the exact same thing as Colorthehours."
No, they're not - not even in this thread.
That seems pretty uninformed to me considering the nature of the rest of the thread.
