I'm surprised no one has mentioned Caroline, Or Change.

Posted: 5/30/06 at 4:50pmThe first thing that came to my mind was Urinetown, too. I also like The Drowsy Chaperone and Sunday in the Park with George, for some reason.

Posted: 5/30/06 at 5:54pmBoth the early Fred Astaire stage musical "Funny Face" and R&H's "Oklahoma" and a few other shows, I understand, were at one time or other during their development periods entitled "My Fair Lady." Popular name, invited often to the dance, but taken there only once.

Posted: 5/30/06 at 5:59pmI agree with "For Colored Girls...." But for some reason "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" was the 1st to come to mind for me.

Urinetown is ingenious.
I happen to really like Hair because yes, the cast has long hair etc., so the title has a literal meaning, but it symbolizes so much more.

"Ah the city. So many lights you can actually pretend one of them is shining on you."
CLIFF: "There was a cabaret and there was a master of ceremonies and there was a city called Berlin in a country called Germany - and it was the end of the world and I was dancing with Sally Bowles - and we were both fast asleep"

Posted: 5/30/06 at 6:05pmEvita. It is simple, placing emphasis on the person, which is really the whole show when it comes down to it. I was gonna say Caroline, or Change but somebody already mentioned it. Serves 2 meanings and is instriguing.

Posted: 5/30/06 at 6:20pmThe Light In The Piazza. It makes you think about what sort of light they mean, which is symbolic, and it also makes me think of pizza :)

Barefoot in the Park even though it's not a musical.
The Drowsy Chaperone
South Pacific
and
West Side Story are all good titles.

babyboomer, i was JUST gonna say 110 in the shade. its a very elegant title, and says sooo much about the show.
i think "a new brain" has a fun title.
and "carousel" has as lovely a title as it is a show.

The Drowsy Chaperone.
I mean, seriously. Come on. When it was in previews here in L.A. and nobody knew about it, I dragged my family along to see it just because the title was so damn odd.
