It's still all rumor but this is the closest to truth that has been posted...
Slow_the_rain posted about Creel and Baldwin and it proved correct. They also had Leslie Odom's replacement was currently appearing on Broadway and it proved true...
I tend to believe them on this, that the alternate is a well know Broadway actress who will get one matinee a week...
I've become so used to nontraditional casting that whenever I see shows like this or Dames At Sea or Something Rotten or Bright Star, I think "why are all the principals white?"

Two matinees a week. Bette's only doing six.

Pretty sure It will be either Jayne Houdyshell or Carol Channing.

This all may be true. But until there's a press release specifying that Bette Midler is not scheduled to do all performances, we won't know anything. However, tomorrow we'll know if it's a full 8 show week.
LOVE Baldwin & Simard! Excited for them but...not a single person of color in the principle cast? I'm not holding my breathe for Minnie Fay.

Ohhhh, Jorge. My dear, unless you've somehow developed some incredible contacts in only a few short months, I highly doubt you have such insider knowledge. Care to share your source?
Am I wrong about this? I saw Ethel Merman's Dolly and as I remember it, she played 8 shows a week. And never mised one. I don't think any Dollys in the original show played 6 shows a week. Who in hell will buy tickets on a day Midler has an alternate going on? I don't care who it is. The only reason this show is having a revival is Bette Midler.

Yeah, but there are people out there who will be fans of the alternate Dolly. That's "who the hell" is going. You can be appreciative that Midler is making this happen while still opting not to see her.

Many people believe Pearl Bailey was the best Dolly ever. This clip, long unavailable on YouTube, displays her emotional dept and her dazzling star quality. (And with the original Gower Champion staging!)
Bette, I love ya honey, but you can't just be better than Carol or Barbra. You gotta better than Pearlie Mae:
PalJoey - thank you for sharing that video. I've been watching all the Tony awards presentations recently and loved Ms. Bailey's, and really the whole presentation of that cast of Dolly on the Tonys. I agree that it's certainly one of the best I've seen. Here's hoping Bette Midler will be as good.
Also I agree it would be nice if there were more diversity in the casting. I still want to see the show regardless though. Though that might depend on how much the tickets are...

I'd pay to see Creel sing the phone book. While I'd like to see Bette, it's not a deal-breaker if I don't.

Thanks for putting any sort of faith in me, but I have also heard that the alternate was supposed to be Carolee, but discussions failed to result in a signed contract.

Why does this production need new arrangements? What was wrong with the originals?
If the use a French minuet to bring Dolly down the staircase instead of that burlesque vamp,I'll beat the crap out of everyone involved.Don't tamper with perfection.
Just spoke to Telecharge customer service, and the very nice lady I spoke to said that Orch will be $189 - that's not including Premium. She also said that after the Tonys, Bette will be off on Tuesday nights. She didn't know anything else about the performance schedule, other than that.

I doubt I'll be able to see the show until at least Fall '17, so am already resigning myself to Bette either (a) having cut back her schedule by then; or (b) not even being in the show by the time I see it. But missing both Bette and Gavin would be horrible.
