Congrats to Lion King for beating Wicked, although I despise the show.
Nice numbers all around, and a huge improvement for Wonderland.
Normal Heart will get a great boost from word of mouth.

Congrats to THE BOOK OF MORMON and HOW TO SUCCEED for joining the Million Dollar club!
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN also had quite the nice boost. These numbers will disappear but we'll see them again come summer, for those who survive.

Posted: 4/25/11 at 3:43pm"Catch Me if You Can" has enjoyed some nice boosts over these last two weeks from word of mouth from the audiences. The Easter weekend really helped it this week as well. It's also nice to see "Mamma Mia," "Mary Poppins," and "Anything Goes" do so well.

Regarding the Wonderland numbers, please remember that the $470,806 was from the last week of previews and opening night, meaning that a lot of the tickets were comps for press and various industry people. The theatre capacity didn't change too much, although it's great to be at 96.2%.
Wonderland is doing a lot better than people expected and the audiences really seem to enjoy it.

as long as it keeps targeting families, it shold do fine over the summer. just can't see it lasting past Labor Day.
Very nice numbers for almost everyone. 11 shows hitting the million dollar mark. it looks like La Cage could go out with a bang, too.

American Idiot going out with a BANG!!!
Hope Bengal tiger keeps climbing.
Glad to see Memphis doing so well! Seems like it is a show that will be aroun for quite some time yet.
MORMON MILLION! YESS!
WONDERLAND doing very good business this week!

Posted: 4/25/11 at 5:31pmGlad to see MEMPHIS still doing so well without any star power and being an original musical. Great bump for WONDERLAND, even though the next couple of weeks won't look as good.

Posted: 4/25/11 at 5:51pmHow much longer do we give Lombardi? I understand it's a play with no big names that probably has a decently low cost - but even the Holiday/vacation week wasn't a major bump.

Posted: 4/25/11 at 5:54pmWow...what a fantastic week for "Chicago the Musical"!! 94.71% gross potential!! Is it due to the Christie Brinkley effect? Awesome! from RC in Austin, Texas

Despite the VERY poor reviews, "Wonderland" has pretty decent "word-of-mouth", and yes.... the audiences do seem to really enjoy it (on the whole)--
Think it muight surprise so people. (as far as its staying power)

As far as the Mormon million, I wonder if audience members are going to start being gouged by the box office staff in order to keep past the 1M mark. That would make me sad.
My friend was looking for tickets months in advance the box office staff was telling her only premium seats were available. Makes me wonder.
I'm all for big grosses and successful shows but part of me worries if the box office is going to start compensating for that small house with selling more tickets as premium.

Posted: 4/25/11 at 8:27pmI'm sure most center orchestra, aisle seats and front mezzanine seats for Book of Mormon are already being sold at the premium price. And it's the producers who decide how many seats will be in the premium block, not the box office staff.

Posted: 4/25/11 at 8:42pmDon't forget that it was school vacation week for much of NJ and northward....through most of New England. (Don't know about any other states, though) Expect to see numbers fall a bit next week.
#22Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/24
Posted: 4/25/11 at 11:09pmwell, if people are willing to buy tickets at premium prices, then so be it. Let the show make money.

"if people are willing"
I don't think it is a question of willing if those are the only options offered. $300 a pop for the only tickets available is a little different than actively choosing to pay more to get a better seat.
#24Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/24
Posted: 4/26/11 at 12:08amI tried to get my family tickets for late May when they come and they don't even have any premium seats left until June they told me. This is the first big blockbuster show since I moved here and I'm bummed my usual tricks to get tickets for the visiting family won't work!
