Outstanding for Frozen. Last week was understandably huge with Easter/Spring Break, but this week is even better, with a higher average ticket price. I'm sure positive WOM is helping this show.

Frozen killing it. 4th highest grossing behind Hamilton and two veterans Wicked and Lion King.

Looks like every show, including the lowest-grossing ones, had pretty good attendance this week. I know that doesn't really mean anything if many of them are comped/discounted and if the show isn't making their nut. But regardless, it's good to see that so many people are going to the theatre!

I don't mean this as a dig towards Frozen at all. I love the movie but haven't seen the show yet. But I've noticed A LOT of tickets on StubHub and when you look on the day of the show, many of the seats are selling for below face value (I've occasionally seen prices as low as $40-50 when I haven't seen any regular seats on Ticketmaster for less than $99). So I wonder if there's any chance this might be a case of scalpers being overly confident in a show and ending up losing money (to the advantage of the show itself).



To prove I'm not digging at a show I haven't seen, I've also noticed similar things happening with The Band's Visit, my favorite show of the year, where sometimes on show days, there are tickets as low as $20 on StubHub. Again, could scalpers have bought big based on the rave reviews and ended up taking a bath on it? I don't actually know! It's just something I've been wondering about as I've browsed StubHub over the past week or two.

Not really. Most scalpers aren't selling a few seats, so for all the seats they make a profit on, a few end up going for less, mainly because they didn't reduce the prices early enough. Most professional scalpers will come out ahead overall, even when a handful of seats go for less... but it doesn't affect the show either way, the seat sold to a scalper, so the show alreadymade itsmoney."

And anyway, the show was above capacity for the week... so it’s clearly using standing room. Demands high. The question is what legs does it have?

The scalper(or whomever is trying to resell the ticket) already bought the ticket at full price so that won't affect anything if it's not resold.

If it's not resold it would affect the attendance numbers since that number reflects the tickets that are actually scanned at the door.

To know that, you would need to know how far out the scalpers have bought into the show, though. And even so, if you buy 10 $150 seats, and sell 8 for $250 and have to let two go at the last minute for $75, you're still making money overall.

I'm thrilled to see it doing well so far! I realize it's early, but so many people love this story and the expectations are high. I want to see Caissie Levy and Patti Murin crush the world, go Frozen go! It's pretty impressive that it came in behind The Lion King, Hamilton, and fricking Wicked. Not too shabby of a start.
