Unless I'm reading wrong, Promises enjoyed more audience members, but shared an income bump with Idiot, a show which actually lost viewers while making more money.
And Quartet seems to have had a bit of Tony show help, too.

Posted: 6/21/10 at 3:35pmOuch "West Side Story!" Sean Hayes hosting the Tonys really heped "Promises, Promises" gross. "Mary Poppins" has had a really solid year so far. Even during the winter and spring months. Laura Michelle Kelly must have more fans than I realized and Christian Borle has his fans from "Legally Blonde" and "Spamalot." Wasn't this the last week for the original cast of Race? Capacity is pretty low for that: only 47.6%. And it looks like the 'Best Dancing' stickers are not doing much for Come Fly Away...
Average ticket prices for Fences and ALNM are out of this world. Wow.

Christian Borle has his fans from "Legally Blonde" and "Spamalot."
I doubt that is making a big difference.
Ouch! I didn't even check West Side because that was the Broadway workhorse who constantly brought in the numbers. Hopefully it picks back up.

Disney presents Mary Poppins is making money because it's Disney presents Mary Poppins.
It's a decent show. "Disney presents..." didn't do much for Tarzan or The Little Mermaid.

Posted: 6/21/10 at 6:11pmIt's a show where your money is working on stage. It has a huge set and a lot of stage craft. That couldn't be said for the other two shows.

Wow is right. Those numbers are mighty impressive.

and "La Cage" broke the Longacre house record. I would imagine it'll continue to break that record over the summer.

Memphis also had it's highest grossing week so far. They should only improve over the summer.
and how is Come Fly Away nearly at $100 for its average ticket?? There's discounts everywhere for that show.

exactly.

i really don't think Sean Hayes hosting had anything do with their numbers, they have had close to those numbers before. It wasn't a huge huge leap. Sean was always the main draw for that show imo, anyway.

#15Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/20
Posted: 6/21/10 at 9:26pmWhy do people keep saying Cheno "co-hosted?" She sang like 50 seconds of "I Say a Little Prayer" and did a short skit with Hayes. Wasn't that it?

IMHO, I think the only shows that really benefit from this year's Tonys are RED, FENCES, and LA CAGE...and the former two are both STRICTLY LIMITED engagements. (Since RED won most play catergories, including BEST PLAY, and Denel and Viola won for Fences, as well as BEST REVIVAL)
Next Fall will be gone sometime this summer, undoubtedly.

Wow, I thought Memphis was selling out this week ?
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/21/a-box-office-bump-for-tony-winners/?ref=theater
' Yet while the Tony recipient for best musical traditionally stands to gain the most in ticket sales, “Memphis” was hardly selling out in the days after its big win: The show’s gross of $835,071 represented only 69 percent of the maximum possible amount it could have grossed between June 15-20, filling about 86 percent of its seats.'

agree. she came out more in the beginning and then we didn't see her, it was hardly a co-host thing.
also my "okay then" was to the poster above you.
#22Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/20
Posted: 6/22/10 at 10:07amgranted Memphis didn't sell out, but it had its highest grossing week to date. I would expect its grosses to continue to climb throughout the summer.

Yeah why would Come Fly Away have "Best Dancing" signs?
And Mary Poppins is doing well because it is one of only shows truly geared toward a very young audience other than Lion King, and Mary Poppins is much easier to get tickets to.

“Next Fall” continues to be one of the lowest-grossing and least-attended shows on Broadway, but its producers have said that they will try to keep the show open through the summer — hoping to gain more enthusiasts once “Red” closes.
We see this claim often, but it seldom becomes a reality. Just because a show closes the audience it had is not necessarily displaced. I doubt we will see any kind of major upwards trend at NEXT FALL after RED closes.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
