Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/12/15

I hope Les Mis is making money. Gentleman's Guide isn't looking to hot. I wonder if it will close in September.

Zell, one does not need to focus on the numbers to zero in on the inherent flaw in your suggestion. There is no correlation between what show warrants a Tony and how successful it is in relation to others. It is quite obvious that, especially in spring and summer and during the holidays, Matilda's demographics are much better than Kinky's. But I would not think you would want the Tony awards to be a measure of how well a show is expected to do among school-age girls. And I would not think you would want to espouse that ticket sales invalidate the unrelated factors that properly resulted in the judgment of the Tony voters even if that judgment is not the one you would have preferred.

He's saying that winning a Tony isn't always based on marketability. The demographic, as in target audience, for Matilda is more available during the summer because schools are out which is why the grosses are higher. At face value, its a more family friendly show.

Kinky Boots on the other hand doesn't market well to families which may be why its grosses are lower that Matilda's at the moment.

sorry sweetlips and thanks littlemouse, you nailed it, plus I am not a big fan of people trying to justify their subjective taste with objective data that has nothing to do with it.

Nice to see Hedwig finally break the 500 thousand dollar mark with Darren Criss. Is it his last week?

This week is his last. Through Sunday.

This isn't the first time. It already broke 500 thousand during pride week.

ZellMarrowsPledge, since you joined 3 weeks ago, you have been breathlessly begging us to use your TodayTix code so you could get enough credits to finally be able to see Matilda for the first time. If you've never actually seen Matilda or at least seen it in person, how can you say with such certainty that it was the better show and it was robbed because Kinky Boots won?

So you've never heard of a bootleg? A cast album? I think what you're saying is irrelevant because its very easy these days to tell if a show a better than another without seeing it live.

Maybe if the Tony Voters had based their decisions on bootlegs and cast albums, it would have won. Shockingly, they still rely on seeing the show live. Silly rabbits.

Oh brother. If you want me to list every reason why Matilda is brother I would but I'm not giving you the time of day. School Song alone deserved the Tony. Stop pretending like Kinky deserved to win.

I believe we are all talking about LIVE theater...which is what the Tony awards represent. If we are talking about filmed versions or recorded versions, you probably should be talking about the Emmy's or the Grammy's.

If someone is discussing LIVE theater and makes a judgement based on anything other than LIVE theater, that opinion is definitely irrelevant.

You're right. I think School Song should have won the Tony for Best Musical.

PhillyPinto has had the award for "BWW's dumbest teen" locked up here for some time, but I appreciate the effort you are putting in to try and pose a serious challenge.

Zell your opinion right?! I've seen both shows and think Kinky Boots totally deserves its Tony win. My opinion of course. I've seen Matilda once and have no desire to see it again. I've seen Kinky Boots 3x (on Broadway and touring) and looking for opportunities to see it again and again!!

Well, if you are going to accuse me of pretending Kinky Boots deserved to win the Tony, you're going to get one. Listen, I realize you're very young and so emotionally tied to Matilda that having any objectivity is not even a remote possibility. But this is a board with primarily adults and if you are going to come on here and say a bunch of nonsensical stuff, you're going to get called on it. That's how it works.

Great, another child that must be correct no matter what.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Great, its great there a tons of adults spending there day on broadwayworld forums arguing with teens. I really didn't say anything "nonsensical" rather that I was happy that Matilda was doing better than Kinky when it was robbed for the tony. All my opinion. I'm correct right? So why are you still talking about it like its some huge issue?

I am team Kinky Boots, just saw it again last week and it holds up so well. I thought and the voters agreed that it was the far superior show. I saw Matilda in London before it opened here and I HATED IT! Saw it here right after it opened and it was the same crap. So happy Kinky won.

BTW you cannot steal something from someone if they don't already have it. So lets just put that to bed. Thanks.

Oh honey, I know I'm not always 100% correct believe that. Please don't think that just because you've been on this site for 8 years means you can reply to every single thing I post

Holy crap!Would you just shut up. People like you are why these threads never stay on topic and why they always go down the drain. Yes, we get it, you have your opinion, but there is no need to state it more than once and continue preaching it. Just move on.
