Did West Side Story jump the shark already?
And go Avenue Q!! Can't remember the last time I saw it over 90%

Wow, what's up with WSS?

Not the best week all around...
Eek! Fall is coming...beware...
Shouldn't WSS be close to recouping? I doubt they are the least bit worried. They are still grossing over 1 million a week.
Unexpected drop, West Side Story. Hmm, there are still so many shows grossing over a million which is great!!!!
The grosses for all shows were down over 5%. School is back in session soon (some may already be back). Don't expect it to get better. Will be interesting to see if big name plays (Law in Hamlet, Craig/Jackman, return of Carnage) boost overall box office or just take $$$s away from other shows.
When I saw 9 to 5, I was shocked!! That is some pretty horrible number especially for a closing show which should be getting more business.

perhaps laurents' little stunt with riedel will end up being a double-edged sword. as certainly there was more than one way to read that article.
after all, many speculate it was that little interview he did that damaged his TONY nomination chances.
perhaps, instead of lashing out at the cast, he should have played "mirror mirror on the wall."
I'm not surprised about the WSS numbers. I was at Saturday's matinee, and almost the entire side orchestra, on both sides, was empty.
OUCH! Burn the Floor. I guess Anya and Pasha just don't have the same draw as Karina and Maks. :-/
The summer is winding down. And the Autumn slump will begin. (Gee how long until the threads start about what will close next?)
Great news for Ave Q -- great to go out on top!

I think I'm missing something. What is exactly wrong with WSS gross? It's still pushing $1.1M.
^ Their attendance dropped. So of course the haters are going to say the production is done. They must be close to recouping, and I doubt they are in any danger if they keep pulling in a million a week.
It's just that its attendance capacity is the lowest its ever been. Its gross is nothing to be worried about, but since fall and winter are fast approaching, the producers should just be prepared.
I think Kevin McCollum knows how it works, lol.
This is just a slow decline right now, just wait until after Labor Day. Kudos to shows like Hair, In The Heights & Chicago for selling SRO even though some of their shows aren't completely sold-out.

People act like experienced producers don't know how to run their shows. They know when the slow times of the year & they prepare. Do people think that they blow all the surplus from their $1M+ gross on coke or something?

it shouldn't be hard to do the math re: WSS recouping.
assume the riedel bit is accurate and the investment was $14 million.
assume the nut is ~$750,000/week (it's probably much less than this, but i'm assuming this for simplicity sake).
the average gross (up until this week) was ~ $1.2-1.3 million. round off the profit to ~ $500K/week to make the math easier. that makes for ~ $2 million/month.
14/2 = 7. so best case scenario it recoups in 7 months.
