Looks like THE ADDAMS FAMILY is die-ing...

"Dieing"? Sorry, that just made me laugh.

Nathan was out this past week, right?

In a word: yuck. Random thoughts:

Will be interesting to see if AI can even limp through September and October to allow it to get to the end of the year. Would be quite surprised, though, if it makes it any further than that.

On the one hand, certainly is clear from these numbers what Nathan Lane means to "The Addams Family". On the other hand, that they were able to muster $760K+ and fill 70% of the seats says something about the popularity and appeal of the brand. Will be curious to see if/how they rebound this week and if the same holds true when Bebe takes her vacation at the end of the month.

With Jordin Sparks' injury over the weekend, I do wonder about "In The Heights". As it is, the numbers ain't great and if she was the "draw" to get them through the Fall, her absence due to injury could be that much more painful (no pun intended).

Nice to see "Memphis" holding somewhat steady. Not my favorite show, but happy to see it succeed. I do wonder what happens when the summer tourists leave but I guess only time will tell.

Ouch! It's back to school week. They is very little amount of tourists left in the city. Next week might be a little better due to Labor Day.

How's Million Dollar Quartet still open? Is it just really cheap to run that show?

looks like most will have a rough go up until the holidays. Glad to see Memphis holding their own. I know i'm in the minority here, but i enjoyed it. Good word of mouth (and deep discounts) should help sustain it for the next couple of months.

That's probably it. "9 to 5" had higher grossing than it around this time of year, but it was more expensive to run. MDQ probaly also thinks they can keep the show running since one of their actors won a Tony Award.

There's no chance American Idiot survives the fall. Their numbers will just get worse over the next few weeks.

Glad to see Memphis still doing well. I wonder why La Cage isn't getting better numbers?? In a few weeks, these numbers will seem good compared to what's coming.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Once again CFA is showing that it has an audience on Broadway but it needs to be more affordable and it really needs to be in a 1000-1200 seater. It can't be that much to run and would be doing well at the Nederlader. Once again, I say close MDQ an move CFA to the Nederlander in October. CFA should never have gone in to the Marquis. Movin Out was in the Rogers and it was a more appropriate venue.. What made them think a dnce musical could fill that big barn.

Wow! Nathan sure does have an effect on The Addams Family.
And just a question about the refunds: do they announce that you can change the date of your tickets, or do you have to know this on your own and go to the box office and change tix?

Shrekster,

Depends on the show and (to a lesser extent) the ticketing service. If the vacation/absence came after people had already bought tickets for the show, some shows will opt to contact everyone who bought tickets to let them know and then give them the option to exchange their tickets (the show's preference) or get a refund. Other shows aren't always as pro-active and leave it to the consumer to find out or discover it upon arrival at the theatre. Either way, once the vacation/absence is announced, all subsequent customers are supposed to be notified at the time of purchase so they're aware in advance.

If a customer does make it to the theatre without being told or having found out about the absence, the onus is on the customer to ask for an exchange or refund. No announcement is typically made at the theatre. However, when a major star is out, usually there is a major line out front to deal with exchanges/refunds so people often realize something is up.

As for ticketing services, Ticketmaster tends to give the show the leeway to decide what the policy should be about notification. Telecharge is a little stricter about its own policies, independent of what the show may or may not want.

I assume exchanges don't apply if you purchase tix from the tkts booth?

As we were buying Addams Family tickets at TKTS, they told us that Nathan Lane was out as soon as we asked for the tickets. Got great seats though.

Such a shame about American Idiot, the balcony was closed and the mezz only half full when I saw it on Wednesday afternoon. Rock of Ages was very quiet last night too, but guessing they have strong Saturday audiences.

I am sure it was these types of numbers the producers were looking at in advance sales for AI that prompted the talk of it closing a few weeks ago. It is going to get worse after Labor Day.

Gotham Girl,

If TKTS is apprised of the absence in advance (as they are in the case of a week-long star vacation), then the TKTS treasurers will tell you before you buy tickets.

If for some reason it's necessary for a star to be absent from a performance and TKTS has already been selling tickets for that performance (not yet knowing that said star would be out), the customer is entitled to return to the point of purchase (i.e. TKTS) and get a refund (and buy tickets to another show if desired).

i couldnt agree more with Justaguy!! Move CFA to the Nederlander where it should have been in the first place! Broadway deserves a dance show.
