Even though I liked Schmigadoon a lot and was happy with it winning the big prize, I've long been disgruntled that Passion is at the bottom of the list of Broadway runs for Best Musical winners, and I wouldn't be sad to see that indignity come to an end this year.

If you include previews, A STRANGE LOOP (my other all time favorite) closed with less performances than PASSION (314 vs. 332) since the latter had 50 previews.

But the sentiment is the same. It was cute, but somewhat defanged version of the tv-show on stage due to the need to cut it down, speed it up, and make juuuuuust enough changes for it to get the recognition at the Tonys that it didn’t really get from the Emmys or GGs

However, these lists don't tend to pay attention to preview performances. Passion is still officially at the bottom.

In addition, I don't think A Strange Loop belongs at the bottom, either. It wasn't entirely my cup of tea, but it was clearly a singular achievement, unlike Schmigadoon.

Which, again, I liked a lot, but which belongs lower on the list than either of those shows.
