The song lists were released:

I wish they'd announce a more specific time. I'd tape it, but I don't want to tape two hours of The Early Show every day.

Whoever the guy for Wedding Singer is gets off easy. You don't have to be a good singer to do "Somebody Kill Me", you just have to be funny.

All this is doing is giving away actors' jobs. This really upsets me.

Bjh, I don't know how to react to your comment One of my best friends is actually doing the Wedding Singer song! His name is Kyle and he's extremely talented! Bernard Telsey came to my school to audition each and every one of our MT majors...It may not be a particularly difficult song but you have to have a lot of talent to be the person picked from each school. The girl chosen from my school is supposed to perform "All That Jazz" last I heard. Look for them and vote for the UofA students!

Cheers,

Christopher

inlovewithjerryherman, I don't know if you know what the definition of a walk on-role is, but it's basically just someone who walks in the background of a scene, so it's really not that big of a deal so chill out!

That's like saying, someone who makes their own coffee in the morning is taking away money from Starbucks!

Exactly, the winner isn't going to be a permanent castmember. They're getting a walk-on for one performance!

I think that is a great idea!

Oh, catstage, I didn't intend it like that. I am not saying that they don't have talent, I am sure they do. I am just saying that "Somebody Kill Me" doesn't really show off one's vocal skills. So, in theory, one doesn't need to be a good musician to do that song. I was talking about the competition people picking that as the male Wedding Singer song. This actually might hurt the performer since he won't be able to show off his full talent.

got'cha...I didn't think you were going for an offensive comment but it's hard to know what is what on these boards the way that some people comment. Originally Kyle was singing "Its Your Wedding Day" but they must've recently changed it. Regardless, look for Kate and Kyle Tues. and Wed. mornings! They're really talented and are going to be able to showcase UofA's dept. and training program in a great light.

Cheers,

Christopher

yea i saw something about this today on the early show. it looks really kool but it sucks they didn't go to more schools. they interviewed bernard telsey (who casted it) and showed a few clips of the contestants. they look good. there's stuff all over the net about it and on cbsnews.com. it's a great opportunity it just sucks they didn't give other schools a chance

Some of those songs are duets and big chorus numbers...yet only have one person singing them...how is that going to work?

I don't have our original e-mail about the performances but it said something about having other people either from the show itself or elsewhere to be the other characters to keep it in context I believe...I wish I had kept that one. Regardless, look for Kate as Velma on Tuesday and Kyle as Robbie (? I don't know The Wedding Singer yet) on Wednesday morning!

Cheers,

Christopher

What were they thinking when picking most of these schools? U of Michigan is the best of the lot...coulnd't they get the great ones like NYU or CCM?

U of Arizona? Come on!

Chitty, I go to the University of Arizona and our program is very good thank you very much. Are we CAP 21 at NYU? No, but the program here is outstanding. We may not have Idina Menzel or Barett Foa as alumni but this program has a lot of working alums. CCM and NYU are in the top in the nation too, CBS chose to pick other schools though.

A school like NYU has networking within the city. For our program, where we are close to LA and don't have the opportunity to go out and audition for big New York productions etc or know people in the city, it is a great experience. Having Bernard Telsey at our school was not only exciting for us but also a great way to get people from our program's name out to some people in NYC, even if it was just for the sake of knowing we've had the opportunity to audition for them. Besides, just because CBS picked a couple of schools throughout the entire nation doesn't mean that they're saying, "These are the five best programs in the country." They are just saying that the programs they've picked are some of the really good ones throughout the country. And until you've experienced what UofA's program has to offer or seen our productions I'd appreciate you not saying such rude things.

Cheers,

Christopher

Wow..Cats...talk about being rude.

Someone states an opinion and you don't like it so you get huffy. Learn to deal. Your program is hardly one of the top musical theater programs in the nation. Hell..you're department has enough problems with cutting students. But..since there is no ranking of good programs, we'll let you slide and live the illusion.

I agree thate there are some schools of question on this list based on talent I've seen "produced" from these school. But let them do their stuff on national tv. If they crash and burn, it certainly won't bode well for their school and everyone will see it. NYU was probably smart and passed.

U of A is great, unless, of course, you're one of the 17 people they decided to cut this year.

Mr.Tuttle is correct in that Tisch respectfully declined to participate.

"The participating shows are the stalwarts of Broadway: Avenue Q, Chicago, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray, Rent and The Wedding Singer.".

Huh? When did "Wedding Singer" become a stalwart of Broadway? It just opened for goodness sake.

Mr. Tuttle,

I'm not upset about the comment in general I'm speaking of the fact that Chitty made it sound like the program is crap. When you attend a school and are part of a program you'll try to back it up as much as you can. Are there flaws with UofA's Musical Theatre dept? Yes, but I doubt that there is a program in the nation that doesn't have something that students wish were better. I'm not saying we're the best program, I know we're not but it is a program that does well. Regarding the cuts, the schools I'd auditioned for did have them so I don't know how uncommon or common they are. But the first two years here are probationary membership to the program and when students choose to come here, we understand that there is a possibility of not making it back into company.

These 10 students were all lucky enough to be picked by Bernard Telsey. CBS has a great idea with this concept and I think that the most important part of it all is that they are promoting Broadway and musical theatre. I'm excited to watch all of the students perform. I'm happy that they've picked my university's program but I'd be excited to watch something like this without the involvement of my program too.

Cheers,

Christopher
