Apparently the shoot starts September 1st in Cleveland; The producers are the same people behind the Smile franchise. Anyone happen to have further information on this?
Huh.
I'm inclined to think it's an alias for some other film in production. If a remake of CAROUSEL was actually happening, I think we would have AT LEAST heard rumors, being that a cast and team would be in place by now.
There’s this news story from the NBC affiliate in Cleveland that details the casting of extras and they do mention it as, “a project titled Carousel,” so maybe it is an alias.
I thought there was a rumor awhile back that Austin Butler wanted to do this show but I could've sworn it was for a Broadway production

I’d be shocked if Austin Butler has the vocal power and high notes to do that 7-8x a week, but hey prove me wrong.

Film projects will use code names 90% of the time, and I suspect that also applies here. Especially with the producers of a horror series.
Alias titles used during production indeed. Billy Wilder’s 1950 masterpiece SUNSET BLVD used BEANS during production and heck, even WICKED used WESTERN SKIES very early into production. This production in Cleveland is definitely not the speculated film remake of R&H’s CAROUSEL. Had it been, this would have been having across the board media coverage in all the major entertainment news outlets (Variety, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter, etc) for months and the casting would be huge news on the Broadway outlets like Playbill, etc.

There was apparently a script named Carousel on the Black List in 2023 that takes place in Cleveland. It has nothing to do with the musical. I bet this is that.

I will say that if we ever do get a new film adaptation of Carousel, my choice to direct would be Greta Gerwig. While she hasn’t taken on a full fledged musical yet (not counting the song sequences in Barbie), she has so far proven that she can pretty much do anything, especially if she really puts her mind to it. Plus, I do feel it would be a smart idea in this day and age to have a woman take on a serious story dealing with domestic abuse and approach it with more modern sensibilities.
The odds of there being another film adaptation of Carousel aren’t zero but are close enough that I’m willing to round down.

The Jackman/Hathaway remake will start shooting any day now. Inshallah!
