THE BOY FROM OZ.
It's awful. Other than a few excellent moments from Stephanie J. Block, I pysically cannot get through ANY song on this CD.
MAMMA MIA.
Sorry. Don't know why. Its just... annoying.
EVITA (movie soundtrack)
It simply does NOTHING for me.
As for THE COLOR PURPLE... thought it was lame the first time or two but (almost a year later) I AM IN LOVE WITH IT. I listen to it constantly. SO powerful. It just had to grow on me... same with Piazza!
- sunday in the park with george london revival... i just don't like it
- fame becomes me- i would have been better suited just downloading the 2 songs i like off itunes
- chicago 10th (mainly because i have no use for the main disc)
-------------
ones i enjoy a bit but just don't listen to (this category also includes, but is not limited to shows that lack a character i can sing/ could play)
- cabaret revival
- sweet charity revival
- the producers movie soundtrack
- aida
- phantom of the opera highlights (my mom bought it)
- phantom of the opera 2 disk movie soundtrack
- the boy from oz (theres a total of 3 tracks i can actually listen to)
- the drowsy chaperone
The only problem I have with the Miss Saigon CSR is that 1. It's not Lea Salonga (though I must say, Joana did a good job) 2. I hate the one who played Chris 3. I don't like the Gigi on that recording, I still think Isay Alvarez is the best.
I almost gave up on this recording, but I held on to it because its complete and good orchestrations.
I got over on the trauma on giving up on some of my recordings. I am taking them to F.Y.E this Tuesday.

I dislike that Chris too--it's nice ot have the CSR to have the current ending recorded--and for perosnal reasons, I saw Miss Saigon my only time in London in 1999 a few weeks before it closed and Joanna was the Kim and was spectacular so it's nice to have her on disc

ALL SHOOK UP - Without Cheyenne to look at, why bother?
SWEENEY TODD Revival - One of my favorite scores ever, but this minimalist approach and Lupone's "understated" Mrs. Lovett leave me cold.
Someone mentioned the soundtrack from LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. Is it on CD?
I regret buying the Phantom OBCR. I really do not like Michael Crawford's voice. Sarah Brightman can be okay at times but most times I'm not to crazy about her voice.
Regarding The Phantom of the Opera, I could have lived without buying the movie sountrack.
I love the original cast recording, but the movie sountrack cast was pretty bad.

The Miss Saigon CSR was recorded before the Aussie cast had even started rehearsals -- that was their main problem, I think.

Sadly no, only on vinyl. Oddly though, at least here in Canada it shows up at used record places a fair amount (odd because the movie barely even played anywhere--so who bought all these copies) i own three just cuz I wanted to get the least scratched copy possible *blush*. The OBCR of course has the movie Glamorous Life as a bonus track but they had room to at least includ Love Takes Time (the new vocal version of Night Waltz) and I'd argue Diana Rigg's flawless Every Day a Little Death

Martin Guerre. I listened to it once, let my cousin borrow it, and I think he lost it. I'm not missing it one bit either.

* Wicked
* Gypsy 2003 Revival (ended up selling it in a garage sale)
* Chicago Revival (Ann Reinkein drives me absolutely crazy)
* Les Miserables OBC (I've listened to it about 7 times in over 10 years)
* Into the Woods Revival (it's not bad per se, I just never listen to it)

this thread has made me realize that i don´t really listen to musicals anymore...
how strange.
oh yeah...and patti lupone in sweeney todd...gimme a break.
skingdom out.
I agree with whoever said sometimes a cast album needs time to really click with you - a couple of years ago I would have gladly added Marie Christine to this list, but I love it now. I'm hoping that Bounce will go the same way, so I'll persevere with it.... However, recordings I have found irredeemable (so far) are
Z - The Masked Musical: I don't doubt that there is a good musical in Zorro somewhere, but this sub-Wildhorn effort isn't it.
Princess Diana the Musical: it's (unintentionally) hilarious in places, but has a rather skewed take on Diana and is ultimately dull and pointless.
Notre Dame de Paris OLC: Easily as awful as the show was, with clunky lyrics and a terrible dreary euro-pop score in which nearly every song sounds like the one before.

You know, alot of the shows I outright detest or just find dull, boring and mind-numbing, I don't 'regret' buying simply because I got the CD on the cheap (and I love a bargin!).
Really I only ever 'regret' when I know it has been a real waste of money.
However, I paid full price for "Jane Eyre" and can barely listen to it. It is enough to put me to sleep.
Also, for what I paid for Bernadette's version of "Annie Get Your Gun" (granted it basically my ebay screw-up) I have always been underwelmed.
agreed, mine were mostly impulse buys in charity shops or the like, but i'm not loving my cds of;
the frogs/evening primrose - love sondheim, but can't get into this cd
saturday night - the london recording. hated it so much i took it back. and that is not like me at all.
bring in da noise, bring in da funk - interesting show i'm sure, but not a cd to listen to imho
i bought the Spring Awakening cd before i saw the show, saw the show an hour later, and i returned it after the show
i also regret chitty chitty bang bang
When I first bought Passion, I regreted it, but after a few listens, I really liked it. It just requires some work.

Songs from an Unmade Bed - I've only listened to it once, and I enjoyed it that one time... I'm just never in the mood to sit through it again.
Rodgers & Hammerstein's ALLEGO (1947) I listened to it once but I just never listen to this unconventional musical anymore. It is boring and pedestrian, except for "The Gentleman is a Dope", which Barbara Cook sings on one of her albums.
a big, fat vote for Bounce.
I'm a huge Sondheim completist and I was very excited to hear a new score, even though I wasn't a fan of the samples I'd heard.
It was a nicely packaged CD and I appreciated the attention that was paid to making such a complete aural document, but
I cannot stand this score! The ryhmes are so contrived and below Sondheim's standards. Or almost anyone's.
I have never regretted a single CD purchase so much.
