Since we always talk about what are the "must have" cast recordings, lets change it. With all the cast recordings that you own, what is it that you regret buying?
Me?
1. Sound of Music (the new one)
2. Martin Guerre (1999 cast)
3. The Wedding Singer
4. Evita (Original London Cast, I was not blown away by the performance of Elaine Paige, which is weird, since I am fan)
5. Les Miserables (Original Broadway Cast Recording, what the hell happened to Frances in this recording?)
Now, I know I'll get bashed... sorry.
GOD BLESS

I do not like my Company 1995 cd aside from Boyd Gaines "Marry Me A Little" and the 2006 Sunday in the Park London revival. Worst orchestrations I could ever have heard befall such a gorgeous show.
By the way, are those getting used for the revival this Fall?
OT, but I agree with C is for Company about the orchestrations. I don't think they're THAT bad, but they are a little slow for my taste.
The Likes of Us. I think I've listened to it twice in a year.
C is for Company, I agree about the 1995 Company recording. I hated it. I had my brother go in the store and say he received it as a gift and didn't like it, and then exchange it for Taboo lol I can't think of any others at the moment I regret buying though.
Oh, and to add to this thread, I didn't buy, but I won the Color Purple cast recording. And I'm not a fan of it. I don't really like the score that much.

I agree with '95 Company..."Marry Me a Little" is the only track I listen to from that CD on a regular basis.
Ditto for OBC of "Les Mis" and the London "Evita" (both the orginal and the new one...Elaina Roger sounds like shes screeching to get out some of the high notes in "A New Argentina", effectively ruining my favorite song in the show).
The latest CD I bought that I now regret is "Spring Awakening". Maybe the music in the context of the show does something, but on CD, it just came off as cliched and monotonous save for maybe two songs.
"The Color Purple"
"I Love You, Because" (there was so much hype around this and I found it annoying)
"You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" Original Recording (I HATED it so I acted like I got it already for my b-day and switched it out for the New Broadway Cast)
And there are others, but I can't think of them right now.
Fiddler on the Roof (Alfred Molina revival)
Totally agree with I Love You Because...while there are some good songs on there I'm not sure it was worth the money.

Carousel 1987 Studio Cast (I just don't like the cast)
Jekyll and Hyde: Ressurection (ugh..)
Sunset Boulevard LA Cast (oh God... I hate the cast)
I have well over 300 cast recordings, I enjoy them for better or worse. But in my 25 years of buying them, I have only returned one to the store simply because I hated it and that was Bright Lights Big City. I found nothing on this recording to draw me in. Bad subject matter, even worse music, and a complete waste of some wonderfully talented performers. And although I like the arrangements on the new Evita recording, the actors aren't capable of singing the score, and i do kinda regret adding it.
J&H Ressurection was awful.
The Color Purple. However I just imported the good songs in my itunes and now I love it. The whole cd was a chore to sit through.
Carmelina
the off bway revival of Flora The Red Menace
LA recording of SUNSET BOULEVARD
BROOKLYN
BOUNCE
MISS SAIGON -- the complete recording
When I first listened the Light in the Piazza I hated it. I mean, I had seen the show and really liked it, but I couldn't get through the CD. Flash forward about six months....it found it's way onto my iPod and now I love it! Some of the songs are even on my "most played" list.

The Complete Miss Saigon recording? HJow could anyone not love that?! Devotee?!?!
I have The Color Purple, I bought it the day after I saw the show. i didn't love the show, but I like he CD. I'll admit, I only listen to bits, I couldn't listen to the whole thing.
I also have the 1995 Company, and I like it, but then again, I've never heard any other recording of it. Getting Married Today is good.
And I don't mind the 2006 Sound of Music or Evita, both of which I have, but I prefer the older versions, and in the case of Evita, I prefer the film. Not sure about the Sound of Music.
Shows I have and never, ever listen to?
AIDA
CATS
GUYS AND DOLLS (Don't know why)
HAIRSPRAY (I listen to the Beginning and End, skip the rest)
HIGH SOCIETY
HONK!
SUNSET BLVD.
About Miss Saigon:
I love the 1989 London cast recording, it's awesome. But the cast on the complete recording is pretty gross (with an exception of Joanna Ampril), so that's the main reason I didn't like it.

JANE EYRE
WICKED (sorry, guys, but it's a thin little score saved by great big visuals)
The Nathan Lane FORUM (the original was fun, this one just tries too hard to be fun)
The Japan tour of FANTASTICKS
I kind of regret purchasing "Skyscraper" although it's cool that I have it. The music is dull, but Julie Harris sounds decent enough. It's hard to listen to 'Spare that Building' terrible lyrics.
Annie OBC. For some reason, my version has spots where the vocals just disappear into the ether, especially on Hard Knock Life. It's like the microphone for one of the orphans was off, so you can sort of hear it in the background as picked up by a a microphone that the actor wasn't singing into. Don't know if its my CD or the recording itself.
Dreamgirls OBC. I regretted it, because I'd hoped that it had restored full versions of the songs, rather than the truncated vinyl recording. But, it was the same as the vinyl.
Unfortunately, what was recorded for DREAMGIRLS is what now exists in the new Special Edition. Just those added extras tracks which were left off the original album/LP/vinyl release. The entire score was never recorded in full. It was recorded in those truncated/abridged versions, so don't expect one to turn-up as it doesn't exist.
The only legal recording of the entire score (and original libretto) is the 2-disc Actor's Fund Benefit Concert recording from 2001.

And that concert recording is AMAZING imo. I think it is the best recording to date (except of course for the lack of J Holliday, but you only miss her on that one song)
