They cut off the biggest parts of most of the songs. I mean of course they can't just give away all of it, but I wanted to hear how Aaron handled the high note in "Goodbye" because he wasn't in the best vocal shape in the video (he was absolutely fantastic live and really didn't sound too bad, just not as good). Could there be an optional lower note for it?
Norbert and Aaron are in different categories, they aren't competing against each other. They can both get nominated and win in their respective categories. Norbert really should at least get a nom. In the rehearsal footage I wasn't a fan of "Don't Break the Rules" but live it is spectacular. Norbert has so much stage presence.
Yeah, I also noticed that Aaron's vocals weren't as up to par in this video...does anybody know if the understudies have gone on for any of the performances yet?
Aaron seemed a little late in a part of 'Goodbye' in the video preview. I would LOVE to see Jay as Frank Jr. BUT first I need to see Aaron (can't wait for April 23rd!).

What are you talking about? They'll almost certainly both be in the leading actor category.
We don't know that yet. Frank is undeniably the lead of the show - in Wicked, where two same-sex characters got the nomination, Glinda and Elphaba were both clearly leads. I'm not saying Norbert won't be named as a lead, but don't count him out for Featured just yet.
I don't know, I viewed Frank as the true leading role in the show, everyone else supporting him. But perhaps you're right, they might both be put in the leading category. Norbert's role is larger then I remembered looking back on the song list.
They are both certainly deserving of a nomination.

steven22---I noticed that in the video too! Aaron like took a quick breath or swallowed or something and came in slightly late in that song...I wonder why they didn't use a different performance of his in the promotional video
Maybe something is getting lost in translation. The Catch Me if You Can video reminded me that I just didn't like the show (I know I'm in the minority as of late).
The Anything Goes rehearsal footage of the big tap number is what made me go out and buy a ticket. Saw it the same weekend as Catch Me if You Can, but in this instance, I loved it.

I saw the Saturday matinee. I was not expecting to like it much, but was almost totally won over. I had a really enjoyable time. The score has a few clunkers, but the majority of it is excellent. Aaron exudes real star quality. He deserves the Tony over Radcliffe, in my opinion. The only disappointment is Kerry Butler. Her acting choices and movements are just plain bizarre. Too bad she gets one of the show's best songs.
I am not embarrassed to admit that I enjoyed this and SISTER ACT more than THE BOOK OF MORMON. I liked MORMON, but didn't love it.
ljay...why would the critics be too cruel on this if you think its so good. Here is why i think all the latest reviews on this board have been "good". Because people read all the crap ones went in with the LOWEST of expectations and then decided "it wasn't that bad". While the rest of us who saw it early on and didn't have low expectations but HIGH ones because it is coming from the Hairspray team, and then saw it and thought "sweet mary moses this is a big pile of crap". The show is poop. The premise is poop. Ms. Butler is poop. The whole thing is drivel that was made to go on tour and make a ton of money. It will last for a bit maybe a year because group sales will be able to show this to kids all across america. BUt it won't ever be the :you have to get that tix" like hairspray was for 3 years and because of that the grosses will never be really high and financially the show will be a failure.
^^^^^^^what he said. Which could apply to so many folks on this board. There is a way to civilly debate our differences in opinion without completely dismissing another's point of view.
Will: They don't give out awards for helping people be gay... unless you count the Tonys.
"I guarantee that we'll have tough
times. I guarantee that at some point
one or both of us will want to get out.
But I also guarantee that if I don't
ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for
the rest of my life..."

Well i hate to say I told you so but I predicted the reviews would not be good a few pages back. (Actually I like to say I told you so--so oh well.. I lied; shoot me!)
The show was doomed by its concept; telling it as a tv special flashback which not only doesn't work but was very tacky.
I feel for Aaron Tveit who is uber talented and handsome guy who was expected to narrate, star and save his own story. I hope he rebounds in something better. He was the great Broadway hope.
No one, not even the wonderful Aaron Tveit could have saved that misguided concept.
I think Norbert Leo Butz, an actor who I normally adore, was doing a Tom Hanks impression and failed to impress me in this show.
Linda Hart with less than 10 minutes on stage stole the evening and brought a much needed smile to my face.
Kerry Lee Butler's character came out of nowhere. I almost asked who is she again as she delivered the 11 o clock number.
I prediced Book of Mormon would get raves. and well I was right about that one too. Well I predict Sister Act will be roasted on the charcoals next week. Let's see if I'm right about that one too.
