Chita Rivera memoir to be released in 2023

In her forthcoming memoir, Rivera introduces her fans and readers to a character she has rarely played in public: her alter ego of sorts, Dolores. And Dolores, which is Rivera’s given name, can be a little prickly, according to Rivera’s co-author, the journalist Patrick Pacheco.

When they first sat down to discuss the memoir in the summer of 2020, Pacheco asked Rivera what people didn’t know about her.

“She said, ‘Well, I’m not nearly as nice as people think I am,’” he recalled. “I said, ‘Great, let’s introduce the public to her.’”

In her still-untitled book, which is due out in 2023 from HarperOne and will be released simultaneously in English and Spanish, Rivera describes her unlikely path to stardom.

While Chita has never been one to dish out sultry stories or make waves, it will be a great record of one of the most incredible humans to ever grace a Broadway stage.

I am beyond excited for this! I'm so so happy

Although, I do hope she remembers to shed some light on Merlin!!

Has any other actor originated more than one Broadway role that went on to win Oscars when played by other actors? (Velma and Anita...the latter possibly twice)

It’s safe to assume Chita will record her audiobook version, as is the norm.  Even Rita Moreno did the audiobook version of her autobiography.  These are recorded in various recording sessions so physically they aren’t draining to do.  They can take weeks to record.

Streisand fans are hoping she records an audiobook of her memoir.

Surprised “Streisand fans” would question this.  She controls all aspects of her work and she would never have anyone telling her story and have that existing as a permanent archive/record of her autobiography.
