Yeah, Bartlett had Firth at one point, but that was years ago. I hope someone is talking to Kenneth Branagh because I think he would be ideal. But regardless of who is right for the role, it's hard to get a star to commit to a year or whatever in New York.

I don't think this show even needs a star, but we'll see. I'm just so excited to see who they go with.

For a second, the thread title made me think there was a show called "Mother F-----g Lady." Which I would see, no matter who was in it.
(But, seriously. Branagh? No way. If his acting career isn't busy enough, he's also an in-demand film director.)

Wait - I thought Colin Firth was solidly attached. Why would he turn it down? He has and will continue to make lots of movies and he's already got an Oscar. Wouldn't he like to try something else? Maybe he feels he's just not capable of doing a play - let alone a musical - and is afraid to fail?
And Kenneth Branagh? Ick. He's very skilled but that high pitched falsetto thing he does drives me nuts. Are they just willing to hire any middle aged British film actor that is well known in the U.S.? Are we going to end up with someone from Game of Thrones?

Ok, but Hugh Laurie should be in consideration also. He'd be great, but Firth would still be my first choice.
Yeah, I'm surprised that Firth would turn the role down after already learning it. He'd probably end up being the frontrunner for best actor at the Tonys. I'm sure that, that idea may peak his interest.

yes, Hugh Laurie would be ideal. Firth is a good second option though, and more marketable.

I'd be really happy with either Firth or Laurie. I just hope someone signs on soon!

So long as it is anyone BUT Kelsey Grammer, I would be OK. I keep hearing his name bandied about in the background and NO. Just simply NO.

I'm curious as to why? I love him, and I've never thought of him for this before but as far as I'm concern he'd work in this pretty well. I'd totally see it if it were him. I've heard worse choices :/ And DHP, lord love him, is one of them.
I'm still Team Colin at the moment however. As long as Eliza is someone who isn't as well known and does it right, I'm a slightly less particular about Higgins.

My GOD is he an incredible actor. And gorgeous too. I don't know if anyone on here has seen him perform Shakespeare, but he's brilliant.
Also, I agree. Keep Grammer as far from this as possible.

Hugh Grant. No one else but Hugh Grant!

Not to mention his theatre company in London.
I'd rather not see Hugh Laurie. It would just look like everything else he's performed. I think Firth is ideal. Otherwise, Ben Daniels, Jason Isaacs or Jeremy Northam would be great.

He wouldn't be too bad.
What about Daniel Day Lewis? Too bad he retired

I'm keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed that Firth gets this but I am also loving the suggestion of Damian Lewis. I'd pay top dollar to see him in the role.

I don't see this as a good fit for Hugh Grant at all. Jeremy Northam, yes, that could work!

It's not. Grant is all wrong for the role.

I totally agree. He would have made an excellent Freddie 25 years ago. All of Freddie's at-a-loss-for- words gaping and stammering would have been a piece of cake for him.
