Yes. And for the record, that pic of Mano smoking is from YEARS ago. A lot can change in a few years...

ETA: hold on, I'm gonna edit it a bit first...

Ok here:

As sweetestsiren would say, "He's gorgeous. There's just no denying it!"

I DARE someone to tell me that he isn't stunning in every sense of the word!

Back when Patrick was Curly in Oklahoma he was my favorite male musical theatre performer.

Such a gentleman. Zowie.

By the by, I have now bought a ticket to see DRS since Brian d'Arcy James is in it. I am very looking forward to hearing him sing. Smart producers to put a singer like that in the show.

Have a great time! Be sure to post a review after you see it! I can never hear enough good things about him.

re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway

Just got back from my first visit to Dirty Rotten Soundrels, which was fun.

Brian d'Arcy James was full of vim, in good voice, and really warmed up the crowd with "Great Big Stuff." That and Brian and Keith Carradine's jazzy "Dirty Rotten Number," which I strolled out humming, were my favorite songs. And I enjoyed others. (Sherie Rene Scott has also got SOME pipes.)

The show received a standing ovation, not bad for a Tuesday night.

It's true, it's not a per se dashing number for Brian, but he got to dash about in a wheelchair...

I have tix and am finally going to see Sweeney Todd because you all have raved on here so much about it. I'm not fond of the show, with all the killing and eating people and I saw it not that long ago at the NY City Opera with Elaine Paige (great singer) in the lead.

I haven't seen Michael Cerveris onstage in a long time (Titanic) to determine his dashingness.

I've never seen Patti Lupone or Manoel Felciano (whom you have also raved about) in performance and I must see this wild directing with the musical instruments all onstage, so we shall see...

re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway

So you don't like a classy, witty show like Sweeney Todd because it's gruesome, you don't like The Wedding Singer because it has some naughty words in it, but you have no qualms with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a show where the point is to be as dirty and tasteless as humanly possible? Not that I minded.

Broadway shows get easy standing ovations these days. I think people go to shows to do it. Michael Cerveris isn't really dashing in Sweeney Todd. I think he's capable of being dashing though, he can totally do that flowery baritone. Brian D'arcy James has a lot of character to be that typical dashing guy I think.

But Harry Connick Jr. is just sort of the personification of dashing. Patti LuPone is pretty dashing too. I'd like her to sword fight for my honor any day.

re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway

"Not fond" and "don't like" are not identical statements as to Sweeney.

I have never said that I didn't like The Wedding Singer, I have said I enjoyed it.

Roninjoey, just say what you think about dashing men in this thread and don't worry about me so much or misquote me.

I did a Fabulous Female Figures over Forty thread you might want to put Patti in, or you may want to create a thread about "dashing" women, though the term is used pretty much exclusively to males.

re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway

Aye, I realize, I was making a joke since there was some fretting about the lack of dashing men on Broadway but Patti is pretty dashing! Although there's no particular reason why women or objects can't be called dashing--isn't it a little fun to be creative with our vernacular? I just think of Patti as very dashing. She has a kind of masculine energy anyway.

Of course, I think there are plenty of dashing men on Broadway right now (or at least, recently).

re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway

After finally seeing Sweeney Todd, I can confirm that Michael Cerveris is of the Dashing Men ilk. He stays in character with great presence and focus yet always part of the ensemble even when, as the demon barber, he coincidingly listens to Mrs. Lovett, responds to her, yet is partially ignoring her due to his fixation of revenge upon the judge. That was just brilliant, Mr. Cerveris.

His throat slash was a dash.

And gad, how the man can sing. Even all that hard Sondheim stuff.

Yep.

re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway

I'm glad you bumped this up...because somewhere either in this thread or the hottest people on Broadway one, maybe, somebody had a terrific photo of Michael as Hedwig...perhaps as an avatar, and that's why I can't find it now. Anyway, if I recall correctly he was sitting on a car. If anyone knows what picture I am talking about and can re-post it, I would be much obliged! (And if it's still up somewhere, please point me in the right direction.)

re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway

I know he's not a broadway actor, but Daniel Craig should play the part Neil Patrick Harris played in The Paris Letter. That's more of an eye candy benefit for me rather than anyone who really wants him on Broadway, but what do I care re: Dangerous Drought of Dashing Men on Broadway???

He IS quite dashing though.
