I just got back from seeing it tonight and really enjoyed it. Both Angela and Marian's performances were very good I thought. I found the play to be at times touching, funny and always entertaining. Others in the audience seemed to enjoy it as well. Approx half the house gave a standing ovation at the end. It will most likely continue to be fine tuned will it's in previews but I really recommend seeing this wonderful little piece and the opportunity to see these two great performers on stage. They are really something to see.

I was there tonight as well. Could you hear the prompters? I was in row F and could hear both women being prompted from the wings. Once they are more comfortable with their lines, the rhythm of the show should improve.
I reluctantly stood at the end of the show. IMHO, it was more a tribute to two fine careers than appreciation for tonight's performance.

Is there a chance in hell that this will last until November?
It will play its entire run...I have no doubt.
Is there a chance in hell robinycus is not a shill?
A Shill. And I migth suggest you change your avatar. It is just a bit to long and really messes up the posts.
I plan on adding to it as long as those offensive ads are on BWW. So get used to it!
Ah hehe! Fight the power!

So, is this a limited run? I didn't read that it was.
OT: Sueleen, that is an EXCELLENT idea! lol.
The cast and creative team have been finalized for the Broadway production of Terrence McNally's Deuce, which begins previews on April 11 at the Music Box Theatre, starring four-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury and Tony winner Marian Seldes. Directed by Michael Blakemore, the production will open May 6 and play a strictly limited engagement of 18 weeks.
so yep a limited run
Practically every play that opens on Broadway nowadays is a limited run. The only one I can think of right now that is open-ended is CORAM BOY.
And yes, robinycus -- who just joined tonight -- is a shill and a half.
They're *still* being prompted? Oy.
The reason why they're getting a standing ovation is obviously as a tribute to Lansbury and her big return. If this play were on Broadway with two nobodies, I doubt that many people would be left by the end of the night, let alone standing.

No, I'm not a shill. LOL. And yes, the play needs some work. I expected it to being in previews. I still enjoyed it though. I'm guessing by your comment that you saw it and felt otherwise? Please explain.
Regarding offensive ads on BWW, that's how revenue is generated to pay for this site. Same as TV, print and radio. Without those ads, the owners of the website would have to charge us or this site couldn't exist. Your avitar is merely annoying without any benefit for the rest of us.
Rob
I'm always suspicious of anyone who joins and on their first day
1: gives a good review for a play that has been generating lots of bad buzz
and
2: tells us about ads generating revenue.
Rob, if you say you aren't a shill, I guess I'll have to believe you for the time being. But as a newbie (and I learned this as well) you might do better to lurk for a while, and do a search before posting anything. There is a thread about DEUCE already, and several threads about the ads.

I don't mean to threadjack but sueleengay has a point about her avatar. That kind of crap has no place on a theatre related message board.
I can't believe they still don't know their lines...

I'm seeing it tomorrow afternoon.
Can't wait to see how they handle matinees....I assume there will be mass refunds if they're out.
Offensive ads?
But what is the internet FOR? Reeeeeaaaaadddddy ordinary people?
Remember, porn has been keeping the internet free since Al Gore invented it.
There's a compelling argument pro-DEUCE at The Other Board, also by a first-time poster... I dunno, it made a persuasive case, and certainly could be a publicist or Mr. McN's houseboy. But does it matter? I remember all the speculation (mostly over there) about MIMI LE DUCK, the fervant defenders screaming the show must be seen, the CD must be recorded, Eartha must get another song! In the end, the consensus was the same, as were the reviews. I hope these positive reports have a grain of veracity, not so much for Miss Lansbury, who's a big girl and knows the stakes. But for those of us with tickets to the damned thing. I have seen too many phone books masquerading as plays, and will spend the next couple of weeks hoping this one isn't.
I think I'M just going to sell my tickets on eBay and go see GREY GARDENS again.
i love you avatar sueleen. i think it's just getting better and better. like the deuce gals.
Just for the record, I am not anti-ad, I know how this works. I am anti-nearly naked women ads that promote a web site that encourages casual sex when we can not use a photo of a shirtless man for an avatar because this is a "family" site. It is a protest to the hypocrisy and the double standard, not to mention the whiff of homophobia. So, until the mods delete my av it will stay.

Ah. I get it now. Sorry, I work in advertising. Yeah, I get the hypocrisy thing and understand your point. But no I'm not a shill. I'm a reader of this site, just never posted before. I'm a fan of Ms. Lansbury's work. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed the show more than others. I found it touching..

No problem, robin. However if you ARE in advertising you can understand how your first post EVER on this board praising a show that has otherwise received horrible word of mouth, just MIGHT be seen as a desperate attempt by someone in THEIR advertising team to get people interested again.
