Oy!
She must have REALLY done a sensational audition to book THIS gig. Dolly had to approve her casting so I'll take it for that as I don't see DeGarmo in this role at all.
Dolly approves so I'll say I approve as well.
Diana always catches us off guard. I hope it comes near me!

Dolly also approved this show, so let's take her judgment with a grain of salt.

Wow. I think that's a great choice. She'll sing the hell out of the score.

But Judy is really the singing role.

She can sing the role, do the comedy, and she's got the relative body type needed. She's younger than I expected them to go but that's an easy adjustment. I've learned not to doubt Diana ( as I did when she was cast in Hairspray), she tends to deliver the goods onstage. She does have her work cut out for her with this show, it's not excellent material.
I believe Diana has a previous connection to Dolly? Something about a gig years ago in a Dollywood Christmas show.

I will be interested to see Daina. I thought she was pretty good on AI and that she should have beaten Fantasia.

That is great news..I love her...
She will be great in this
Guess she won't be doing the Hair tour, then.
They should be announcing THAT cast soon, yes?

Diana sang at the Music Mansion in Pigeon Falls, a theater that had a partnership with Dolly's corporation, over 10 years ago. Diana was there for the summer and Christmas season. Diana actually did not meet Dolly until April 2008.
I have no doub that Diana will bring a new light to Doralee and is an excellent choice for the part. I can't wait to hear Diana sing "Backwoods Barbie".
I don't see her in this role at all, but I have no doubt she'll be good. She was excellent in HAIRSPRAY and quite good in HAIR.

This is really great surprise casting! I'm excited for her!
I have a lot of respect for her. Supporting roles, regional, touring, off-Broadway...she's a real trooper/trouper.
I will take this opportunity to restate this opinion for the neither the first nor last time: someday, she will make a VERY GOOD Annie Oakley. I hope it is sooner rather than later. I think a young Annie Oakley would be very refreshing.

I really like this casting and wish this was coming closer to me. I seem to recall from when Diana was on Idol that she's from a small town in Georgia or Alabama as well. I just hope they give her a good wig.
I hope they're rethinking Judy for the tour. Casting her as a power belter was a huge mistake. Hopefully they will get someone who can act and sing modestly until the big number at the end.

I couldn't stand her on American Idol ("Thank you Mr Simon") but I respect the hell out of her for what she's accomplished theatre-wise in the past couple years.
Nothing against her. But some of you are making it sound like she's originating roles and getting Tony nominations. She's done a few tours and has two Broadway credits as a replacement.

How so? She's proved that she is serious about her stage work & not some AI reject who's brought in to make a little more money. I think she deserves praise for that.
This is the first time in recent memory that at 1st National Tour has not come through Washington, DC or Baltimore.

Fair enough. But there is little doubt that she was in cast in HAIR because of her name and the American Idol brand.

i know and i find it a bit outrageous....its the nations capital? and one of the most affluent regions in the country. its not like theyd lose money stopping here. i dont get it.

No Dallas at the Music Hall? That surprises me considering DSM was an investor in the show (I believe?).
