I can't seem to find any threads about it. How was it?
I was there last night. Sadly, it was very bland and a huge disappointment. I'm seen much better dancing in other Broadway shows currently running. The crowd was very enthusiastic at the beginning, but were more subdued by the time the (manditory) standing ovation occured at the end. It was completely sold out and I think it will sell well to tourists, but it certainly could have been better.
It was a thrill meeting Maksim and Karina though...they were wonderful!

I was there too, and I have to agree with Without a Trace on this one. There is obviously talent up there on stage, but it's not put to very good use.
I felt like I was getting seasick from the cruise ship antics of canned music (only the percussion and violin is live) and fourth rate singing. "After All" and "Proud Mary" were definite low points.
The show is supposed to be divided up into four sections, but none of them stuck to their suggested theme, and it just became a mess of frenetic dancing.
The male "singer" gave three rather humorous speeches, including one that ended, "This is Ballroom: Our Way!"
The bottom line is it failed to make any sort of impression, and in a few months I probably won't even remember I saw it.
I love you boys but you'd go to the first preview of a bowel movement if it was on Broadway wouldn't you? Gotta admire your commitment.
^ LMAO. LMAO. LMAO. BOBBY! I love you.

Bobby, you are correct. Regardless of what piece of $hit opens on Broadway, my best friend WhizzerMarvinTrinaJasonMendel and I will be there!
LOL!!! I'm dying! Yes the two us would show up to anything.
Didn't you first preview the Chinese acrobats or whatever the hell they were?
I applaud your optimism too. "I thought the Broadway ballroom revue would be better than this!"
Yes we saw the first preview of "Soul of Shaolin." That was worse than "Burn the Floor."
I thought this may have been ok. I mean the dancers all had won competitions. If they had let them dance their normal routines it may not have been quite so boring.
Production values? Were they up to Broadway standards.
There was no set at all and the lighting was nothing to write home about. The band (or four) were on stage.
So, to answer your question, no, the production values were not up to Broadway standards.
Darn. I haven't been in the Longarce theater yet, but I guess I'll have to wait a little longer.
It's only a first preview...maybe it will shap up -- I was planning to go in two weeks.
Keep us informed.
This sounds pretty close to the touring version which I saw in Las Vegas. I enjoyed the show, of course, I got half priced tickets and paid something like $20, so not Broadway prices.
It seems they could have up the production values for Broadway even with a limited run.
Could anyone who was there scan the Playbill cover for me? Thanks!
I saw the Burn the Floor matinee today, and I don't think I have ever disagreed with WAT and Whizzer more. I thought the show was amazing.
I'm seen much better dancing in other Broadway shows currently running.
Please tell me where, because I've obviously missed it (even though I have seen every Broadway show currently open). Not only is the choreography outstanding and amazingly difficult, it is also executed to perfection. I was in awe the entire time.
The show is supposed to be divided up into four sections, but none of them stuck to their suggested theme, and it just became a mess of frenetic dancing.
Actually, I found the 4 sections to be quite distinct, and yet they flowed together marvelously. I loved how the sets were broken up. I think the director (also the choreographer) did a great job with this. Frenetic is the last word I would use to describe this.
I felt like I was getting seasick from the cruise ship antics of canned music (only the percussion and violin is live) and fourth rate singing. "After All" and "Proud Mary" were definite low points.
After seeing this comment, I was expecting awful singing. I was definitely surprised. The singers were amazing. I have no idea what Whizzer is talking about. "Proud Mary" was excellent. Also, the saxophone (live) was amazing as well.
The bottom line is it failed to make any sort of impression, and in a few months I probably won't even remember I saw it.
I find this really hard to believe. It was easily the best dance show I have seen (and I have seen MANY dance shows in my day). If this doesn't win Best Choreography awards this year, I will be shocked. The energy of the entire show was electrifying. I will remember this show for years to come, and will definitely be making many return trips.
There were definite standout dancers, but all of them were very strong overall. I thought Maks was honestly the weakest, but that's relative. He was still amazing. Karina was incredible, but for me the real star of the show was Giselle Peacock. Her stage presence was amazing, and her Act II Cha-Cha was incredible. The standing ovation at the end was hardly mandatory. I have never jumped to my feet so quickly. Do not miss this show. Ballroom may not be for everyone, but the energy of this show has you on the edge of your seat at all times.
