I would love to see Hercules and Hunchback. Both scores lend itself to the stage and would fit perfectly into a musical theatre production.
I'm a music teacher and have done Disney's Aladdin, Jr. and it is very close to the movie. It's very well-written. There is also Mulan, Jr. (which just came out this year) and Alice in Wonderland, Jr. which is really wild! I read that they're working on Beauty and the Beast, Jr. These "junior" versions are great for the age group I direct (5th through 8th) grades. And I have to tell you that the years I do a "Disney" show, I make the most money in ticket sales.
I think it will be interesting to see what that division of the Disney empire decides to do....I'm anxious to see The Little Mermain and I'm hoping it has more heart than Tarzan. I was very disappointed in Tarzan...

I never meant for Tarzan to CLOSE Tarzan, like Little mermaid is closing Beauty. What I meant is that when Lion king starts to die down in popularity, Disney could think about fillking the theatre with tarzan. I think it just deserves a larger theatre to have more special effects that would wow the audience, like in the european production.
I saw Hunchback in Germany and it would be perfect for Broadway if it were entirely restaged. Blocks and projections get very boring after about 15 minutes.
That Pocahontas Wikipedia thing made me LOL!!!!!!!!
>>>Numerous attempts have been made to turn Pocahontas into a live-action Disney musical, akin to The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. However, it has been difficult to logistically transfer the film to the stage because of potential technical problems. A stage is limited by size, and several scenes such as "Colors of the Wind" and the final scene where >>>Pocahontas runs after the English ship, would have to be reconceived entirely, which would likely diminish their crucial >>>power on the story.[citation needed]
This would certainly be the easiest show for Disney to transfer to Broadway. Casting it would be the only real challenge. Why do scenes from the film have to be conceived exactly on stage?
There are no technical problems because this has never been on their slate. It would be a nice choice, they could age it up a bit, fix the history and ditch the animals.
My money is on Mermaid swimming into the Richard Rogers... though such a small theatre...

My vote would be:
1. Aladin
2. Nightmare before Christmas
3. Alice in Wonderland
4. Pocahantas
5. Cinderella or Cinderella
6. Fantasia (it might work..)
7. Possibly Pinnochio (it might work..)
just a few thoughts.
I think Hunchback is the best idea. The music seems the most suitable for the stage and the story is a bit more mature then a lot of the others, which might appeal to a broader audience.
"I would love sleeping Beauty, but the thorns and the dragon may be too much."
If they could make Ursula expand 400x her size and erupt at the end of TLM, then they can do a dragon! lol
---------------
I would totally love ALADDIN and HERCULES come to Broadway. Even though they have DisneyWorld/DisneyLand versions of the show like how Finding Nemo is, they could still do it. "The Voyage of TLM" at WDW is supposedly closing because it is opening on B'Way.
I found a list of Disney musical-movies and I converted it into a list of possible future Disney musicals (not in particular order; animated and live-action films):
-Snow White
-Pinocchio
-Fantasia
-Cinderella
-Alice in Wonderland
-Peter Pan
-Sleeping Beauty
-Jungle Book
-Fox & Hound
-Oliver & Company
-Aladdin
-Pocahontas
-Huntchback of Notre Dame
-Mulan
-Lilo & Stitch (may have alot of Elvis music?)
-Chicken Little
-James & the Giant Peach
-Nightmare Before Christmas
-Newsies
-Hocus Pocus (may be too much similar to WICKED?)
-George of the Jungle (may be too much like TARZAN?)
-The Parent Trap
-Princess Diaries
-Freaky Friday
These are ALOT of good and bad choices but you never know if one of these WILL be on B'Way.
If I forgot any, let me know! :)

the hunchback stage show at MGM in orlando was one of my favorite things there. i was so sad when they closed it. it was a 30/45 min live show
photo album
If I ever saw that on a Broadway stage I would do a nose-dive off the front mezzanine.
I was in Italy for a cultural exchange and the sisters I stayed with were simply over the moon about Der Glockner Von Notre Dame. I'm absolutely intrigued by the idea of it being brought to Broadway. It takes alot to impress the Roman crowds and if this had that profound of an effect, it should work in NYC.
obviously a broadway version would do better make up and costumes - this is just one of the little shows at mgm meant for kids
at the time disney wasn't making things like finding nemo that really could be put on a broadway stage short running time aside
Now that "Tarzan" has closed, you know Disney's gonna put a new one in the works! I would consider:
-Sleeping Beauty
-Aladdin
-Hercules
-Pocahontas
-Huntchback of Notre Dame
-Nightmare Before Christmas
It's inexcusable that we haven't gotten Hunchback.
But I'd also love Aladdin.
Alice in Wonderland would be so good.
And I know that Rogers and Hammerstein have a popular one, but the score to Disney's Cinderella is gorgeous. I think THAT version would be great on stage.
"So this is love"
"Sing Sweet Nightingale"
"A Dream is a Wish..."
"Bippity-Boppity Boo"
"Cinderelly"
just like amazing songs, IMO

My vote's still Aladdin, next would be between Mulan and Hercules..question, wasn't Julie Taymor going to direct Pinocchio? What ever happened to that plan?

Rockadoodle was not a Disney film but it was made by Don Bluth who worked for Disney before branching off to form his own company. While I find Rockadoodle to be a fun film I think Bluth's Thumbalina would be better suited for Broadway. The film is filled with beautiful Manilow songs such as "Let Me Be Your Wings" and "On the Road". I think the right people could make it into a wonderful show. That or another Bluth film - Anastasia.
As for Disney films I recall when Hunchback was first released in theatres Jason Alexander said if they were to ever bring the film to Broadway he'd be happy to step into the lead.
A love a lot of the suggestions so far in this thread. Aladdin would make a wonderful stage experience as would Nightmare Before Christmas. And Newsies. Oh, how I loved Newsies once upon a time. Cinderella is my FAVORITE Disney film and I'd definitely see a live version of that.
How about Aristocats? "Ladies don't start fights but they can finish them"

They will NOT do Alice in Wonderland. The reason is because there are already a few other Alice in Wonderland projects in the works based off of the original novel.

I think Aladdin would work the best translated onto stage (besides the magic carpet), but characterwise, the parts are simple, it's a show anyone can enjoy (I adore watching the movie) and there are soo many songs in it already that composers wouldn't have to add crappy others. It's a simple yes.
Pluse, Hunchback would be fabulous, just because it's soo much of a darker Disney film. My friend and I watched it and were amazed at the extreme beauty of the score, but they'd have to add in quite a few more songs. I'd love to see God Help the Outcasts on stage, though.
