Jack Black would be awesome.
I'll bet he'd never do it though.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 1:56pmA while back, they had offered the role to Chris Sligh of American Idol fame (read that on his blog, frommymindtoyoureyes.com), but he had to turn it down because the readings were happening during the AI tour.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 2:06pmI think Paul Vogt would make a good Shrek. He was a terrific Edna in Hairspray.

They want a younger, "rock and roll" type.
In other words, they are looking for a Jack Black clone.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 2:49pmI just cannot imagine this musical actually working. All I can picture is something resembling those traveling Sesame Street shows. I'll have to wait and see the costuming for it. If they do something really stylized then maybe it won't seem so much like a children's show. Think Lion King, not Little Mermaid.

How about Bruce Vilanch?
PS I hope they cast Jennifer Simard. I think she would be great!
Jennifer would be great as the Queen.

Well Danny Fogler is the poor man's Jack Black.
Balls of Fury anyone?
But, yes, I heard he passed.

Bruce is too old.
So is Kevin Chamberlin, before anyone says it.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 2:54pmI don't think they'll be looking for a name. The name is Shrek. And presumably the actor will be well hidden in a big green costume, won't they?

Posted: 2/8/08 at 2:57pmIf they want this show to run for years like the Disney shows, they will not be looking for a name to cast. They will cast someone who is easily replaceable, who won't be missed when he leaves the production.

I don't know about the designs?
Anyone have any inside sources?
Will it be outside the box? Or an attempt to look like the cartoon? What about Donkey? How will that design work?
Hmmmm.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 4:06pmWhy not Randy Quaid? He might be a bit typecast in the part, but hey. He'd probably be cheap.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 6:05pmConsidering how everyone and their illegitimate nephew auditioned for this show, yeah, I thought it'd be a cast of unknowns.
