I don't think Lin will be a one-hit wonder. In The Heights may prove to be his biggest hit, but I think he has a lot more up his sleeve. With In The Heights he didn't just create some gimmicky songs in the Latino and Hip Hop idioms. Its a full out musical theatre piece with a score that provides exposition, character development and pushes the plot forward. In fact I think the show is at its weakest in the book scenes and kid of think he should have just composed a sung-through show.
I think he is also smart enough to distance himself from Heights and create something totally different for his next musical, and not beg any sort of comparison.

I really don't think he is a one-hit wonder. Not at all.
I anticipate great things to come from him and and super excited to see what happens.
He's a huge talent and there's no way he's going to fizzle out.
It's been said, but how can anyone judge whether or not he will be a one hit wonder at this point...
Let's give the guy some time to come up with something else wonderful!
(And, I fully think he is capable of making more magic. Everything I've seen and heard from him has been nothing short of fantastic. Even some of the songs I've heard from ITH that were cut from the show [the few I've had the honor of hearing] are great!)

Absolutely not. Maybe my username shows my bias, but I love In the Heights to death. Even the music shows remarkable range - it's not all salsa or rap (When You're Home, It Won't Be Long Now) and he has a great understanding of the musical theatre style (Blackout, Finale).
We will see how Mr. Miranda does with Hamilton.
But, in the interim, here is one writer's view of whom he claims to be "one hit wonders":
Lionel Bart, Mitch Leigh, Ed Kleban, Hollman/Kotis, Frank Wildhorn
But, if you're going to put Kleban on the list - why not Gerome Ragni?
Do you need to have a second shot that doesn't work - otherwise Charlie Smalls - who wrote music/lyrics for The Wiz, but has no other IBDB listing - would qualify.

Why did you bump this thread?
Obviously if you think he's a "one hit wonder" you haven't heard Hamilton.
I bumped the thread to (1) link the article (2) not just start a new thread about a topic that has been referenced in different ways using the search function (2) and (3) I picked this one because Hamilton makes the topic a little more timely. This thread seemed the most direct for the "one hit wonder" topic.
For the record, I think LMM is very talented and I hope Hamilton is a hit. But we won't know until it actually opens and runs.
In terms of ticket sales, at least, Hamilton is definitely a big hit already- the run has been extended and tickets are sold out for the entire thing.
I do hope that Hamilton becomes a success, so that the idea of "one hit wonder" doesn't every apply here. However, he is only an Oscar away from an EGOT at this point. I don't think he really fits into the "one hit wonder" label.

Hamilton is sold out and it's THE thing to see this winter. It's the coolest, most diverse cast people have seen in forever.
He isn't a one hit wonder considering all his contributions to the theater community after In The Heights anyways.

Cannot wait to see Hamilton in about a week, got great seats monthes ago.
HAMILTON has extended it's run...TWICE. Lin is not a "one hit wonder" not by a long shot!
Hamilton is poised to be a big hit and undoubtedly, at the very least, earn Miranda more accolades this season and most likely next.
I was so confused upon opening this thread because I didn't realize at first that the first page and a half was from 2009.
I find it absurd and slightly hilarious that someone bumped a nearly 5-year-old thread. In the 5 years that have passed since the OP posed the question we've seen Lin-Manuel Miranda do incredible work for Working, West Side Story, Bring it On and more! Not to mention his acting work both on stage and on screen and his television show with his group Freestyle Love Supreme or his amazing work on The Electric Company and Sesame Street. The sheer fact that Lamb-Manuel is a character on Sesame Street is a testament to his talents AND his staying power. Lin-Manuel is a tested talent and a marvel and I, for one, am thrilled that Hamilton has extended AND extended and I will be supporting it fully!
Into the Heights will be his biggest hit but the verdict is still out there and a lot of buzz is being made about Hamilton @the Public as it has been extended 2x due to ticket demand and it hasn't even opened yet...we shall see?
Hoping this composer-performer has a lot of creative juice left in him...I believe so!

I'm gonna say no
Robbie, that's IN the Heights. Not Into.
Well, based on his recent successes and the offers that he has received, I'm going to say no

My answer to the OP from seven years ago....
My name is Lin-Manuel Miranda. My name is Lin-Manuel Miranda. And there's a million things I haven't done, but just you wait, just you wait...
I doubt it. He has had 2 shows and both are hits. This already discredits your question. I have to give credit where credit is due. He is an extremely talented composer and actor.
People, check the date on this thread. It was started before Hamilton. BroadwayForever just bumped it to point out the how funny the question is in hindsight.

The new question is….is he a 2 hit wonder? Check back in another 7 years. I'm thinking, no.

LOL!!! This thread is hilarious. Someone should tweet this out to Lin so he can print it out and hang it on his wall next to his Tony.
