The rush / lottery at this theater is usually back of the balcony.

Since I am determined to see this revival of a play I genuinely admire and loved the first time, yet know it's not in my theater budget, I went to the box office. The bad news, the mailer is basically useless. The good-ish news: they understand how many people want to see this show who - how else to put it? - can't afford it. I investigated balcony for Wednesday matinees, and discovered anew how costly those normally cheapest seats can be - $259 for second row from the last. No use being shocked anymore. Anyway, sides of the orchestra - mid to rear - have just been re-released and re-priced as "partial view," and reduced to $299. Still outrageous, but as the B.O. staff member opined, they're superb seats for $40 more than balcony. And as I recall from the Gyllenhaal Sunday in the Park, the rear balcony at the Hudson can see miles from the stage.

As I post often, I'm exclusively a TDF guy. I saw 13 of the shows last season on TDF, including extraordinary seats for Becky Shaw, Oedipus, and even rear center orchestra for a Death of a Salesman preview. So these Desert prices are like Streisand at MSG. But I share because at least value matters. And as someone who's had great luck with "partial view" - at Maybe Happy Ending and Goodnight, Oscar - I offer what I learned. And apparently availability opens up somewhat the third week of December. It's heavily sold thru Thanksgiving

I’m always surprised when someone complains about the balcony at the Hudson. I think it’s one of the best and almost always get a balcony seat to a big play like this one. It’s a very intimate theatre and I have never had an issue seeing facial expressions.

I cannot believe what balcony seats are going for. I bought tickets immediately during the presale - a Saturday night, second row balcony on the aisle. Paid $131 including fees. I thought that was outrageous. I’m not sure I’ve ever been happier about buying early..

Agree on both counts. Got the last row of the balcony for 99, which feels like a steal now

And yes, the Hudson has the best balcony on Broadway. I sit there for just about every show. The only time I had trouble with sight lines was Doll's House, and that was Jamie Lloyd's fault, not the theatre's
