Then why did they just send out a discount code? I wonder how well it actually is selling with those insane prices. I just looked at a date in December and there are so many tickets available and we don't even know how many they're holding back.
"

Every show sends out a marketing mailer now. It's generally expected anymore. Shows provide a "discount" - where that's big or small depends on how its selling. ODC the discount is not great - if at all - but they are going to appear generous. People will remember the show is happening and purchase regardless. It's a physical reminder in a digital world.

Ok? Every show holds seats back lol

Good job, you got there.

I am saying just because a show holds back seats, does not mean it isn’t selling. This has been selling VERY well from the get go and MOST seats were released during the on sale from what I could see when I bought mine day of.

Dont’t be a typical BWW jerkwad.

I never said it wasn't selling, just that we don't know how many seats they are holding back. I was simply asking questions. We all know shows hold tickets back but you suggested that all we have to do is look at the website to know how well a show is selling. You're arguing back about nothing. Your comment, "Ok? Every show holds seats back lol" is a jerkwad response, I never came at you.

I’m planning to see the show on Jan 8th for my 18th birthday! I'm looking at getting seats in the dress circle, which I've heard has amazing views at the Hudson. I’m honestly so excited to see Allison Janney back on stage with Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

I just realized John Benjamin Hickey is returning to the Hudson, which is where he directed Plaza Suite. I'm a little nervous about the direction though, since Plaza Suite got pretty mixed reviews. I'm really hoping this revival turns out better and handles the drama well. What does everyone think of his directing style?

HIckey is such a lovely man - and great actor.

Unfortunately, his directing isn't memorable or particularly interesting. He has very little experience with the job.but trides on the "stars" names he knows.

It's best he's doing another easy revival with smart actors. He'll come across better this way - even if not at his hand. The revival will be by the book with "stars" - it's obviously selling on the casts' star power - whether his direction is good or not. I'll guess it'll be serviceable with the two prominent women showcasing their roles well - per the original.

The plays original director will reviving Downstate.

I really don’t think Hickey’s direction was the biggest fault for PLAZA SUITE. It was a dusty and dated play that tried to coast on the power of a real life couple in the leading roles - one of whom, despite being a two time Tony winner, has been an example of diminishing returns in performance over the last 15 years.

These numbers are truly criminal. $200+ for the last row of the theater?! Sick.

Allison Janney picked up another Emmy so I think they are anticipating increased demand. Do I understand it? Not really

“I wasn’t interested in seeing it when Allison Janney had seven Emmys, but now that she has eight..!”

FWIW, I was looking on Monday afternoon/evening, prior to the Emmys.

I'll say this until I'm blue in the face: GET THEE TO THE BOX OFFICE! I can't think of a single Broadway show in over two decades (the return of Nathan and Matthew to the Producers?) where advance purchase on-line was a must to guarantee entry. And you also get the experience of tapping into the BO person's insider info...and perhaps a good chat!

If you have access to the box office: use it, they save some great seats and you save a ton in fees.

Totally agree but what about all the people who don't live in NYC? A $107 "service fee" is insanity. I can't imagine being a tourist and actually paying that. This country is in so much trouble.

I remember how insane the discourse was around Othello tickets, but it feels like the current 2026–27 season is pushing the envelope even further. Between the pricing dynamic we're seeing for the Other Desert Cities revival and the buzz around the Small Mouth Sounds cast, it feels like these two shows are positioning themselves to be the most talked-about plays of the year, both for the star power and the absolute sticker shock.

Frankly, looking at what's coming up down the line, I expect the exact same outrage when ticket blocks open for the Evita revival, Three Days of Rain, Sound of Music, Paddington, or even Purple Rain. It really feels like these eye-popping premium prices are becoming the seasonal standard rather than the exception.

People don’t have to be outraged. There are reasonably priced non-prime seats available now for Evita, The Sound of Music and Paddington. I was very happy that I was able to purchase an $89 seat for Evita. That price point still exists. There are $58 seats available for The Sound of Music. Why wait?
