Saw it last Friday night. It exceeded my expectations. Most enjoyable night of theater I've had in a long time. Great story! Great characters! Great performances! Perfect cast! Happy to hear about the cast album but really wish they would film this production, to capture and preserve the magic that's happening on that stage! Can't imagine it getting anything but rave reviews.

Wow, the preview thread here was overall so negative about the show but the critics had the polar opposite viewpoint!

This is not the first time it's happened, nor it will be the last.

Is it the echo chamber effect? The first few posts are negative so everybody else feels obliged to agree.

NYT...
Rave might be an understatement.
"
There’s hardly a moment in the exhilarating, devastating revival of the musical “Falsettos” that doesn’t approach, or even achieve, perfection. This singular show, about an unorthodox family grappling with the complexities of, well, just being a family — unorthodox or otherwise — has been restored to life, some 25 years after it was first produced, with such vitality that it feels as fresh and startling as it did back in 1992."

It's also a way of finding out which posters share your taste in theatre and which ones you can ignore. The ones who did not like this are ones whose opinion I will question for a time to come

But have you even seen this???
What a world we live in. Where someone so closed minded on an anonymous message board openly admits to ignoring a user for having a different opinion. Ignorant.
I hated this show.

Over ONE show? Surely you have theatre friends you agree AND disagree on when it comes to various shows.

Is it just me or do people miss the days when we just post individual links to each review rather than clicking that annoying Broadway World Review Round Up link?

I wouldn't trust the judgement of anyone who "hated" this show either. It speaks volumes about their taste in musical theater. That's not to say that my taste is better than theirs, or theirs better than mine. But it tells me that our tastes are so opposite that we're not even in the same ballpark. Why would I, or how could I, trust their opinion or judgement about other shows when they "hated" this show that I "LOVED" so much? Different strokes. I LOVED every minute of it! It's what real musical theater is and should be about. Just my opinion, of course.

I miss it a lot. I don't need BWW to pick the excerpts for me.

What's the point of contributing to a discussion board if you're going to write off anyone who doesn't agree with you? That's not really conducive to the whole discussion aspect.

That times review was a huge rave, let's hope it allows the show to extend for a few more weeks.
Plus if I blocked or stop listening to people who didn't like something that I did, I wouldn't have any threads to read ..

Quit the drama. Who said anything about writing someone off or blocking them? I can appreciate varying views and opinions and I enjoy reading what others think and have to say, even if I don't agree with them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But that doesn't mean that I have to trust their judgement when their views and opinions on a particular subject differ that much from my own. I watch the news channels and listen to both sides talk about why they think their candidate would make the better president. I enjoy the discourse. But I would never trust the political judgement of a Trump supporter.

I find your argument quite problematic in the sense that some people HATED this production specifically, not the material. It could be that they fault with an actor's approach to his/her/their character or the direction in general, or that the lyric changes are more jarring than effective. In both scenarios, the "hatred" comes from the love for or at least commitment to the original production/material.

Isn't saying "why would I, or how could I trust their opinion or judgement about other shows when they hated this show I loved so much" the exact same thing as saying you're going to write off anyone who doesn't agree with you, though? You're telling us right there that you don't care how thought out their reasoning is; if they don't like Falsettos, they're wrong about everything. And disliking Falsettos is hardly equatable with being a Trump supporter. It's kind of funny that Trump got brought into the conversation, though - making sweeping generalizations about people based upon one facet of who they are is something he's been known to do as well, isn't it?

What a beautiful review from Isherwood - and here I thought his heart had gone the way of the Grinch.
