Well, if Merrily counts as a failed show then I'd say Not A Day Goes By.
I also like a few songs from Glory Days: My three best fiends, My Next Story, After All, and Open Road.

Posted: 5/4/13 at 11:42amThe entire Caroline, or Change score. Underwater is the most beautiful song I've ever heard, second maybe to Around the World, from another brilliant flop Grey Gardens.

Posted: 5/4/13 at 2:01pmI actually enjoyed a handful of the songs from WONDERLAND. Some songs, however, (mainly Go With The Flow) were just dreadful.

I am surprised that nobody wrote, Meadowlark, from The Baker's Wife.
I was just about to add it!
Also:
"Don't Forget the Lilac Bush" from STREET SCENE (actually anything from that show)
"It's a Lazy Afternoon" from GOLDEN APPLE
"Life Is" from ZORBA
"I Am Wearing a Hat" from IN TROUSERS
I'm not counting shows that may be technical flops because they failed to recoup (RAGTIME, anything by Sondheim), but are well-known and often-revived and highly regarded classics.)

Posted: 5/4/13 at 6:17pmThanks AfterEight for the "Every Tomorrow Morning" overview. It's interesting you write that people like Gower Champion (who as far as I know had nothing to do with Dear World) knew how to build a number, when this show was famously troubled when it came to its direction and choreography, with Lucia Victor (Champion's former assistant being replaced by Peter Glenville and Donald Saddler, who were then replaced late in the game by Joe Layton, who was indeed like Champion in knowing how to structure a showstopper.

TBFL's entry, "People Like Us - Leap Of Faith " reminds me of another even better "People Like Us" from THE WILD PARTY (broadway version).

Chris, I was thinking of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC by After Eight's bete noire, Stephen Sondheim.
I saw an amateur production yesterday and that little "Weekend in the Country" number builds pretty damn well, even without choreography. (I realize it was written around the time of DEAR WORLD, but After 8 usually blames Sondheim for everything that has declined in the musical theater.)
