So, there were/are no consequences for this drunk and disorderly woman? Why wasn't she hauled off to jail and booked?

You can't ask for respect and use the F word in the same sentence you idiot. OK, point taken, I won't take my shoes off anymore, unless you are in the theater, then I will do it just to upset you for being so rude."
I don’t really care if you respect me personally, but you should respect the theatre and show some common sense.

Between arguing that it’s okay to take your shoes off in the theatre to asserting that you can’t say f*ck when asking for respect, you’ve made some pretty interesting rules of etiquette for yourself, haven’t you? You must share some more pearls of your wisdom with us.

There was a woman there who RAN down from the balcony to this woman's defense. Even started screaming at a man in the balcony nobody needed to hear his "white" mouth, or something along those lines. Granted, he projected the loudest that night when he shouted, "you're a disgrace". She let everyone know that she's a lawyer too.
I admit, I'm nosy so I ran downstairs to "use the restroom" and saw the managers doing their best to get them out of the auditorium, but she seemed to have also brought it to the lobby. I bet nothing happened, or will happen, out of this.

Yeah, I noticed one of the tweets linked to in Broadwayworld's article was also harsher toward the white audience's reaction to the Black woman in crisis (using mostly passive terms to describe her behavior) than toward her:

Why was Wendell offering refunds for the couple??? Behavior like this should never be rewarded.

I've written about this before---I went to a performance of "Grand Hotel" at Encores at City Center. The woman sitting next to me took her shoes off, crossed her legs and scratched her smelly bare feet practically in my face. She then preceded to stick that same hand down the front of her chinos and m@sturbate, all while keeping up a conversation with the person sitting on the other side of her! I simply couldn't believe what I was seeing! That will ALWAYS be the absolute worst theater experience I've ever had to deal with! The staff at City Center refused to reseat me (even to a seat with a much lower ticket price), refused to let me stand and watch the performance, refused to let me speak to to the house manager, and told me to go back to my seat and shut up. I have not been back there since. I don't know what's worse- the horrific person that thought it was all right to m@sturbate in public, or the ushers who treated me like a criminal. Of course I wrote the theater and got the most idiotic response back. And no, I did not go back to my seat!
Here is a longer video of the incident, shot from the balcony. This one captures the woman who seems to be defending the disruptive lady - that happens around 1:35, after the guy yells YOU'RE DISGRACEFUL.
Shouting to the drunk woman who stopped a performance with her behavior that she’s a disgrace is considered racist?

Yes, there seems to be an effort by some to hold her blameless for her actions and cast any criticism as racist. According to one of the comments on Deadline's article, which doesn't mention the woman's race at all, covering the story at all is anti-Black.

So holding people of color accountable for disgraceful behavior is now considered racist?!?!?! It has nothing to do with the person's skin color - it has to do with their behavior and for the "race card to be pulled out and played for this is fvcking ridiculous - - - and I am saying this as a man of color.
This woman's behavior was disgraceful and she should be called out on it and held accountable for it. PERIOD,
W in the actual F is wrong with people?!?!?

He was trying to calmly diffuse the situation and get these people out of the auditorium without escalating matters further. It was admirable of him.
The virtue signaling by the mostly white Twitter users is really so annoying.

With all due respect to all those commenting (well, most commenting), actors should NEVER engage
with unruly audience members. The show should have been stopped. The actors should have been told to
leave the stage by the Stage Manager. The Front of House Manager should have been on this as soon as
it started. The lead actor did NOTHING to make this situation better and should never had gotten involved.

Apparently nowadays it is.
Wasn't there a white woman who took all kinds of grief as well when she got into it with Lupone over the mask situation. I agree that she deserved it too.
We all know that racism exists in this world. But color of skin isn't always the issue. Sometimes it is actually the behavior. And to force the subject in to places where it's not relevant just hurts those who are truly victims of racism.
muscle just keep doin what you do.
i bet you’re like me, I take my shoes off all the time and no one around me knows.

Why anyone would come to a show angry and drunk, then ruin things for everyone in the theater working or enjoying the show is beyond me. Mr. Pierce was full of grace and class as always. Ugh."
Can I bring you to the theater with me? I get so annoyed when people are loud at the theater!!! Or when they take their phones out with that light.
"
Yesterday, my mother happened to be in town and caught & Juliet. The person next to her took her shoes off during the show and kept them off. It took everything in her power not to say something. Yuck."
I'm totally guilty of doing this, why is this rude? I don't smell and no one can tell I do this, but I do it."

This is what confused me. In the longer video, you can hear the Stage Manager come over the PA and say "All actors please leave the stage." The other actor does, Wendell doesn't. Go figure.

Wendell should be fined by the union and receive a week’s suspension for prolonging the incident as long as he did.
Lol. Yeah right. Was it the wisest choice? Probably not, but the toothless union that is AEA ain't gonna do nothing about the star of the production in its final week.
Talk about an over reaction.

What is with audience members lately?? At a show a few weeks ago I had to tell someone to put away their phone numerous times because they were filming the show, staff at the theater had to tell them as well. I ended up moving at intermission because it was so rude and disruptive and they didn't seem to care. Yesterday I saw a show where I had to tell someone to put away their phone. When I saw The Lion King the person next to me held up their phone, was recording The Circle of Life the whole time, then had their phone right next to them on their seat and it kept lighting up. If you can't put away your phone during a show, you shouldn't be there (unless it's an emergency. Then step out).

It is really beyond belief that anyone would play the race card here. I don't care what color this woman was, she's a jerk, she was drunk, she was out of control, and she was called out for it by - ooh, a white man. He had every right to call her out, and the idiot woman in the balcony, the "lawyer" was as big a jerk as the drunk woman. I guess in her world you're allowed to behave any way you like if you're a person of color. Uh uh. Sorry.

I had no idea what the woman was until I read the comments here. When watching the video I thought it was just another drunk idiot at a Broadway show and that opinion still hasn't changed.
I actually went to see 1776 (ugh, that show) with a famous BWWer and I asked him if he noticed I slightly took my shoes off, and he had no idea. I honestly don't think anyone ever noticed I took my shoes off during a show, it's done very discretely and I only did it a couple of times when I had to walk a lot and my feet were killing me, some of us have to walk a lot because of the nature of our work. But I won't do it again, since these bitc** queens may murder me.

The amount of times I see audience members pull out their phones during shows now is ridiculous. Audience behavior is out of control these days but this woman should have been yanked from the theater immediately. Wendell should not have prolonged this at all.

A lot of sick people...lots of coughing on yesterday's matinee.
