Nothing unexpected really. The only thing slightly surprising is that they didn't petition Chris Cooper into featured for Doll's House Part 2.

I think it's a smart move. Featured Actor is an embarrassment of riches, and I don't think Cooper would get in there. With him as Lead, I think he has a real shot at a nomination.
You may be right. He wasn't even on my radar as a possible nominee, but this might give him a shot.

When I saw it early in previews, it was like he was in a totally different play. I went back this week and he really picked it up and is giving a strong performance. His reviews were quite strong as well.
I think that's a very smart move, and that Cooper, Glick, Hawkins, Kline, and Mays will be the lineup.

Noticed that Barrett Doss didn't get petitioned to be leading. I know featured actress is a tough category but after the good reviews for Groundhog Day is there any chance she gets in?

I also thought that was interesting about Barrett Doss. I guess they chose not to petition her for leading since the category is unusually competitive this year.
Keep in mind though that producers can make whatever petitions they want, but the Tony committee will also make its own determinations.

No Mark Ruffalo? If I had to bump one of my previous picks to make room for Cooper, I think it'll be Ruffalo, too, but I'm struggling with it.
Ruffalo didn't get spectacular notices. He's certainly possible, but I might even place Roxburgh or McBurney over him, to be honest.
Interesting that Doss was left in featured. She might stand a chance there depending on how much they like the show.
Derek Klena was left in featured, leaving all three ANASTASIA men in the same category, which seems like an odd choice.
The Charlie kids are not eligible. Thought they might have gotten the Matilda treatment but nope.

maybe she has a better chance of a nomination as featured. I sure hope so, she is incredible.

''Anastasia'' should have petitioned Derek Klena for Leading Actor; now he'll be in Featured Actor, possibly battling supporting co-star John Bolton for a slot. What was ''Anastasia'' thinking?

Given how crowded Featured Actress in a Musical is, I'd be surprised to see Barrett Doss slip in.

So Laura Linnie was bumped to Leading, but Cynthia Nixon stays in Featured?

Nixon played Birdie on opening night, which is a featured role. The producers decided these are the roles they will compete for, leaving them both eligible to win in a different category. It's a smart movie in many ways.
Yes- it's easier now for both women to be nominated, rather than compete against each other for a slot or award.
Linney will have Metcalf to contend with in Leading, but Nixon has a great shot of winning in Featured (though personally I'd give it to Houdyshell or Rashad for Doll's House).
I'm surprised to see Henry Shields up for Leading Actor – I considered TPTGW to be such an ensemble piece that they'd all be up for Featured.
If Soo has any chance , she's as bland as the musical she's in..
According to Broadway.com, Warren Carlyle won't be eligible for Best Choreography...

Yeah, interesting. Here's how I'm thinking the category might go down, with Carlyle out of the mix:
Andy Blankenbuehler (Bandstand)
Kelly Devine (Come from Away)
Denis Jones (Holiday Inn)
Sam Pinkleton (The Great Comet)
Sergio Trujillo (A Bronx Tale)
I haven't seen the show yet, but shouldn't Groundhog Day get lauded for choreography as well? The staging has been raved about multiple times, and in my experience, those go quite hand in hand depending on the piece.
