so which flops were recorded?
Hundreds of flops have been recorded...
Musical wise I second chess. The original london cast had great strongs, and to me a great story. I live for the day when a proper Chess revival comes back to the great white way.
Play wise I loved Democracy. To me it was the best play I have seen before or since. I know it ran for a while, but still it was the first time in a play where I could truly feel the characters emotions. I proudly hang the poster in my dorm. It was such a great evening, I will never forget it. For those of you who missed out on it, you can buy the script off of amazon.com.
Sunday in the Park
Taboo (but this time with a new book)
Seussical-i love the changes they have made to it.
Steel Pier
I second "Beautiful Game." The first time I heard the cast recording I had tears in my eyes. Some of the songs in the beginning are throw aways (not all), but once you hit the wedding song and to the end . . . heartbreaking is the only word I have for it.
- All Shook Up
- The Woman in White
- Dance of the Vampires
Platinum
Marlowe
Dude
Via Galactica
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Marilyn: An American Fable
I second Dude, Via Galactica, and Marilyn: An American Fable!!! Add Rachael Lily Rosenbloom!
..and The Education of Hyman Kaplan!!
I'll have to go with: Chita: A Dancer's Life. What a shame that it closed. I hope I get to see it on tour.

Seussical.
Done right, I think it's a great show (I recently saw it done VERY right by a local community theater). The problem is: there are so many ways it can be (and often is) done WRONG.

TABOO, the cr was terrific, and I could kick myself for having missed it. I'd like to see Roundabout have a go at this.
NEVER GONNA DANCE, I love these old fashioned song and dance musicals.
As for CHITA, A DANCERS LIFE, it should have been a limited run, and classified a special event.

Have we all forgotten Titanic?

I would love to have seen those Alice and Emily in SIDE SHOW
I have to second Platinum. I saw it twice in Philly before it went to New York.
Merrily We Roll Along
Caroline or Change (It does get a new life in London in the fall)
uncageg- I'm jealous! What did you think about Platinum?
P.S. I say this a lot, but who else thinks Roundabout should do Merrily We Roll Along in the next few years? It would be incredible, and I can think of some great casting ideas...
omg, uncageg, you saw Platinum TWICE? i would sell my soul to see it at least once! how was it??
I'd be careful for what you wish for, especially since you're seeing Hot Feet next week.
Titanic did win the 1997 Tony Award for Best Musical so it would be hard to classify it as a flop even if it did lose money.
Two flops not already mentioned that I wish could be re-tinkered with are:
Mack and Mabel
Subways are for Sleeping -- this show has such a nice score, it is a shame that the plotline and the book were so bad!
I also agree with previous posters on Chess, Rags, and Parade
Haha...doesn't Vivian Nixon sell her soul in Hot Feet?
No, but Mr. Serpentine sells it for her.
