What have the lyrics about George Bush in the song "For Now" in Avenue Q" been changed to?
It just occurred to me that I haven't seen the show in a few years and I'll be going back in a few weeks and I was curious.
Why not allow yourself to be surprised?
I suck at surprises.
My guess... "Obama is only for now." It's a simple change, and keeps it in the same vein. I don't know though...
I saw it about two months ago. It is "Fox News" now.
I like that!
I think they should do three or sour different versions, so the audience never knows what will only be for now. That would be fun!
^ That is what they did on the national tour. They cycled between "This show," "recession," "prop 8," and "your mother-in-law." At one point it was changed to saying "George Bush WAS only for now." Not sure what it is currently, though.
When I saw the National Tour, Bush was still in office so they said "George Bush." It was funny, that one line offended people in the Houston audience and sent them out 20 seconds before the show ended! LOL!
^I kind of wish I saw the show with that audience. That would crack me up.

Of all the off-color stuff in AVENUE Q, the line "George Bush is only for now" is the one that drove audience members away?
That's awesome.
In a Toronto regional production they sang "Rob Ford is just for now". He is the relatively new mayor who is fighting to remove bike lanes from all over the city to make it more car-dominated. "For now" can't end soon enough.
I saw it during the "swine-flu" pandemic. Was not expecting it, but it was brilliant.
I saw it right after it transferred to New World Changes and they used "Wicked"... Ironic much?
It would be politically incorrect to put in Obama's name (for now) and they don't have the guts to do it. If they have, then it would be a big surprise to me.

It would also neither be funny nor comparable to the use of George Bush in the song, unless the implication were that all presidents are the same and ,of course, they are not. Those are actually more compelling reasons for not writing in a change along these lines, more so than a lack of guts or political incorrectness anyway.
RainbowJude - I know quite a few people who think it would be funny to use President Obama's name for different political reasons. Why do you think it is not comparable? Bush made decisions that people did not like and so has Obama, depends on where you stand politically. Heaven forbid you make fun of a liberal President, guess the show can only "mock" people/groups that are conservative. (Bush, Beck, Fox News). I saw the show and they used Bush's name and I laughed quite hard with the audience even though I am not liberal.
