My October theater trip is coming up in less than 8 weeks, and when I feel a craving for pizza (which I usually do in NY one night), I usually go to John's, which is very good, and everybody seems to recommend.

However, I would like to try a different place this time.  What's a good sit-down place for some quality pizza that's in or near the theater district?  I'll probably be eating pizza on Thursday night, sometime before my 7 PM performance of Hamilton, so if there are any place you could recommend that's near the theater, that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Whenever I go I head to Don Antonio 309 W 50th St. Good pizza, and fairly quick. It's usually my spot for dinner in between a matinee and evening performance

I've always liked the place on 46th, next to the Church of Scientology. it used to be called Pronto Pizza but I think it has a different name now, which I can't remember. I can't say how it compares to other places in the area, but it's good and it's centrally located.

Pronto Pizza is amazing (if that's what it is called) but when I went to the city back in June it was boarded up. Are they reopen?

There is this place down the street a bit from The Lyceum theater called Cranberry Deli and they have pretty great pizza, among other things.

Casa Nonna on West 38th Street is molto bene!  (It's spacious and they take reservations.)

Don Antonio, as mentioned, for "foodie" type pizzas--really delicious

But if you want VERY good/casual pizza/pastas/salads, go do Don Giovanni on West 44th/8th

Uncle Mario's on the corner of 50th and 9th is my go-to pizza place as it's close to my apartment.  I've heard great things about Don Antonio, but have somehow managed to never try it.  There's also BSide Brick Oven Pizza on 51st between 8th and 9th (right off of 9th).  I think it's owned by the people who own Vynl.  I really liked the food I've had there.

This June? I haven't been in NY since May, so I wouldn't know. If you meant this June, then that's a real shame. If you mean last June (2014), I can guarantee that it's been re-opened since, but with a different name.

I always enjoy Two Boots, on 9th between 44th and 45th.

The place across from the Richard Rodgers is called Patzeria, and it has been called that for years. Not sure what Pronto Pizza is.

Yep! That's the one and it was definitely boarded up in June (of this year).

OK, I live here, and I'm pretty sure Patzeria is not closed. Maybe they were doing a renovation when you saw it.

Patzeria across from the Richard Rodgers Theatre is a small pizza Place. However, there is a sit down Patzeria restaurant at 311 West 48th Street. I took my sister and her friends there and, aside from being near the bar where things were a bit loud, it was just a nice, easy Italian place with excellent pizza. They enjoyed the meal quite a bit.

Also if you want  a fast slice on the run I love Off Broadway deli for the best 1 slice in the area. It is not fancy but there are tables and it is only a dollar. I go there when I only have 30 minutes before a show and you can't beat lunch for 1 dollar.

Off Broadway deli is on 45th.46th and 8th ave. Also they have other food if you don't want pizza. I have only tried the pizza.

Patzeria on 46th St is, I think, the best pizza in the entire city.

I definitely echo the sentiments for BSide Pizza on 51st Street and 9th Avenue. Very fast and friendly service, wonderful food, and great wine selections. Frequent it often and have never had less than an incredible meal.

They were doing renovations next to it. The pizza place was never closed.

As for my favorite pizza that would have to be the dollar slice at Z Deli on 8th ave. Or Angelo's if I want to sit down and relax while I eat.

I am SO the only man on the lawn waving my cane right now. I read this thread and just kept saying "no, no, no... Stop name good pizza spots. Don't tell them any other place that I like. I hate when I go and have to wait 35 minutes for a table or the slices of my favorite pie are gone and it's even worse the reason I am waiting are clearly NOT from the tri - state."

Yeah... I have been in NYC for THAT long.

The best thing I can say about Two Boots pizza is that the store  has a hipster vibe and I would never eat there. As for pizza in general it's very hard to make a bad one. As for "great" pizza, as somewhat of an aficionado on the subject (Brooklyn) I've never found one better than good in the theatre district.

Serafina's next door from the Eugene O'Neill is quite good, as is Don Giovanni's (although the service is terrible)

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.
