"I don't get how everyone is so impressed.... she's an actor. that's what they're expected to do."
What does this mean? You weren't surprised because you know that all actors succeed at what they are expected to do? That seems odd, since you obviously never like anything. I guess I just don't get why think an actor successfully doing what they are supposed to be shouldn't impress people. What am I missing here?
I agree. I wasn't impressed with the performance and haven't been for most of the season.
That being said, I enjoy GLEE. It's a fun show. I simply don't like the overly-digital sounding, lip-synch look that the show employs. It's annoying. They do their best, but there's no way in hell that Michele could ever top a 'Don't Rain' from Linda Eder or Babs. She's doing the best she can with a voice that's just not big enough for the song.
Don't even get me started on Mercedes's attempt at AIATY: Eek. Digital blips all over the track, an obvious sameness to her vocal runs as Jenn Hudson and it was just as bland as they come. She'll have a pop career, sure, but if you think for a second that she's up there with Holliday or Lillias White, you're dead wrong.
I take GLEE for what it is: Fluff. Most of these performers couldn't do the full shows they're singing clips from... Songs waaay too large for their television voices (and yes, that statement goes for Lea Michele as well).
I might be naive, but if I didn't like a show I would just stay away from threads related to it rather than waste my time commenting nasty things about it.
(although I'm sure there are one or two of my hate treads circulating somewhere for something I didn't like....:) )
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...
Everyone hates something, Stephanie, and BWW is just as perfect a place to get your hate on as it is to express your love for something, day in and day out, obsessively and exhilaratingly. We all do both. They're both cool.
But Music Snot is a psychopath with a need to hate everything, which probably. When someone is so invested in being right all the time, it usually comes out as a nasty need to make everyone else wrong all the time, which comes from a deep insecurity and feeling of self-worthlessness.
The Glee version of this song is #9 on iTunes. One thing I will definitely say about this show is I never thought any show could get this song back on the pop charts!
What's creepy is that Snob has been at BWW for less than 2 months and already has 500+ posts.
Perhaps if you got out of the house a bit you wouldn't be such a negative nellie all the time? It's hard to believe that you would know what good theater looks or sounds like since you never leave BWW for long enough to attend anything.
"You just can't win. Ever. Look at the bright side, at least you are not stuck in First Wives Club: The Musical. That would really suck. "

Despite my love/hate relationship with Glee, I think it'd be great if they could expose people to more unknown showtunes. I wonder if they could take the risk in featuring some songs that maybe a lot of its audience wouldn't know?
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
For me, it's not that GLEE is disappointing, but simply that people here oooo & aahhhh so frequently over their mostly bland renditions of well-known showtunes. As many of you have your strong opinions on how fab the GLEE kids sound, I hold my opinion that they can't come close to the originals (or other, better, covers).
As I already said, I like GLEE: It's escapism fun. I'll continue to watch for sure, but will also speak up when someone swears up and down that Lea Michele's version of X is the end all-be all. Familiarize yourself with the source material a bit more and you'll see that's usually not the case, especially when you're having to listen through the insane amount of digital cleaning up that the GLEE producers do.
Every GLEE song is starting to sound like a Beyonce single
What's funny is at least me, myself personally, I am extremely familiar with just about all the original songs they have used and I still often would rather listen to the Glee versions.
Glee is a show that has made me care about the characters. The last show that has made me sit down and watch a show (I don't have cable, I have to go online!) was Pushing Daisies. These shows make you feel good and take you away from all the crap that happened in your day/week.
I hope everyone has an escape, whether it be a book, this site, a tv show, a cd, a person, a pet SOMETHING that makes you take a couple minutes and go: "Hmmm, I enjoyed that time spent in my day".
If Glee isn't for you, oh well. CSI: Miami isn't for me.
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...
The thing is, a lot of people watch Glee for the musical numbers. Myself included. That's why we don't stop watching despite the mile-wide plot holes and inconsistent characterization. Everytime I'm about to turn it off, they do a performance number and I'm hooked.
