"John Arthur Greene has succeeded original star Cody Green in the role in the classic American musical. Greene played his first official performance as Riff Aug. 4, according to a production spokesperson.
John Arthur Greene is making his Broadway debut in West Side Story. He starred as Action in the European tour of the musical and was seen Off-Broadway in The Johnny and Luke in Mim."

HA!
That's what you get, Cody Green.

The extra "e" is for extra pee!
Well, that was a bit uncalled for. (ColortheHours comment)
I know he was out a lot....but didn't most say he was injured?
Was he really fired?
Good for Greene, I thought he was much better than Cody anyway.
Nothing in the article states that he was fired....but that's not the sort of thing you publicize.
I think the fact that they didn't even both to come up with an "injury" story or anything is fairly telling. They didn't even give him a cover story.
If it were anything out of his control like an injury or illness, we would've heard. Much like the whole PAL JOEY situation.
Willain. Wictim.
Life goes on.
Wasn't there something about Cody needing surgery for a serious sinus issue?
Well, at least Greene will show up to work (unlike other cast members who are frequently out). I saw Greene as Riff in June and thought he was better than Cody.
I love this revival of WEST SIDE STORY, but it sucks that people are paying full price to see all these sub-par understudies. Matt, Josefina, and Karen are so wonderful in their respective roles and the paying public should be seeing their performances.
I'm really surprised Cody wasn't replaced after the show's run in DC. He was dull as dirt.

*blinks* I'll give you Josefina and Karen but Matt...c'mon now. If Matt's so wonderful why are so many people planning on going while he's on his honeymoon?
Eris0303, I agree. I think Karen and Josefina are wonderful but Matt is just boring. I was so excited the second time I saw the show because his understudy was going on. Honestly, I thought the understudy was better.
You're entitled to your own opinion, Eris, but I think Matt is an excellent Tony. I have seen him five times and have loved him every time. Have fun seeing his understudy while Matt is on his honeymoon - you'll probably be seeing an understudy for Maria or Anita as well...
Is Karen ever in?
you'll probably be seeing an understudy for Maria or Anita as well...
And that's okay

Having seen ALL the principals, she wouldn't be missing much.
I saw the show in DC and thought Karen and Curtis were the real standouts. Matt was no more than a piece of scenery. Which was sad because I do like him. But I didn't in this.

i agreee with yankee!!!! this production is a SNOOOZE! no cast replacement will help this show!
Someone over on ATC mentioned that Jennifer Sanchez went on as Anita last night.
Having seen all of the leads last month (shocking, I know), I agree--with the exception of the ethereal Scaglione--you're not missing anything if any of them are out. Olivo radiated about as much heat as a day-old empanada, and Cavenaugh gave possibly the worst performance I've ever seen in a legitimate stage production (his only rival, to my mind, is Ali MacGraw in Festen). Honestly, I can think of performers who weren't even nominated that I'd give the Tony to over Karen. Just about the worst three hours I've spent at the theatre in recent memory.
