I tried to search for a thread on this topic---but couldn't find it. Does anyone know if there was (or will be) an album made of the latest Gypsy production (Patti LuPone)? I tried Amazon.com---but they didn't show any.

It was recorded in May and will be out in August.

I wish they'd sell them early at the theatre since I'll be there on July 8th.. One can hope! LOL
Well at the theatre you can pre-order it and they'll give you a little preview disc with five songs on it.

i hope it does not come out they are too many gypsy cast cd's out there. but i think that crybaby need to have a cast cd made because it is new show.
First of all, I already pre-ordered the album so it better come out. Secondly, just because something is new doesn't mean that it requires an album. Cry-Baby was a flop and it's closing this weekend.

Hmm, wonder if I could find one of those on eBay. I need something to tide me over till the real thing comes out!

Cool. So we're supposed to constantly sort through your rants about how EVERY show should be recorded, but now you get to slam recordings of revivals and hope they don't come out? That's nice of you.
Moving on, though, this upcoming "Gypsy" recording is a must and will be wonderful. Besides the fact that Mr. Sher's work is always impressive, the promo tracks sound amazing and they're not even the final deal.
pssst...MCFan, I have the sampler. It's on YouTube, but if you can't find it, PM me if you want it.

It's more than just "another" recording of Gypsy. It's a record of one of the most amazing performances of the role, EVER.

Thank you. :)
Bryan, it's more than another Gypsy! It's the LUPONE/BENANTI/GAINES GYPSY! And did you ever hear the word "bootleg" or "demo." I'm sure there are a few of Cry Baby out there. How do you think 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue (the musical, not the house) survives?
august could not come soon enough!!! SOO excited for this recording

That's 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (the house and the musical).
Regarding this Gypsy, it is not just another recording of Gypsy. It also valuably features the songs written and cut for the original show, including "Mama's Talking Soft," performed in its original counterpoint version to "Small World," the Minsky's production number "Three Wishes for Christmas" (sung by Tony Yazbeck), the original very funny Act Two opener, "Smile Girls" (sung by Patti Lupone), "Nice She Ain't" (sung by Boyd Gaines), and both "Mother's Day" and "Tomorrow is Mother's Day" (two different versions of essentially the same song for the Dainty June act). I even think they are using the original Ramin/Ginzler orchestration for "Mama's Talking Soft". The rest of the numbers were orchestrated by Jonathan Tunick, who was a Ginzler protege.
The songs on the preview disc are Some People, If Momma Was Married, Everything's Coming Up Roses, Together Wherever We Go, and Rose's Turn. They're fantastic recordings.
I was at Wednesdays matinee, and they were taking pre-orders. The sales girl opened her cabinet for change, and it was literally packed with the CD's.
Can someone please PM me the link to download the sampler? I think I accidentally deleted them on my computer...thanks.
Thanks Smaxie. And they're also putting Rose's Act II ballad that was supposed to be sung once Herbie leaves. I forget its name.
That's right. "Who Needs Him". Forgot to mention it.
I fear because of all of the amazing new (unreleased) songs, there won't be enough room for them to include dialogue before the songs and the finale dialogue between Rose & Louise. I know the finale was recorded, but it wasn't definite if it would be included or not. And I know 'Everything's Coming Up Roses' and 'Rose's Turn' don't start with dialogue on the sampler, but I wish they would on the actual cast recording.
