Don't know if this has been posted yet but the HP website finally has a complete seating chart"
Thanks for sharing this!
Does anyone know what those missing seats are for in the orchestra, starting at row U, three seats off the center isle?"
I asked that a view days ago and the only thing we could think of was a support for the extended Dress Circle. I have tickets early in Previews and can report back then
I've been suspecting this for a while now, but after getting an email from Cursed Child this afternoon advertising a big announcement this Saturday about how to be the first to see the show, I think they're planing on doing a Groundhog Day and giving away a lot of the house for free/cheap at the first previews. Those have been the only 2 dates since pre sale that haven't had any releases at all, even handicap seats. Announcement is Saturday at 8am, assuming it's a lotto of some sort.

It's similar to what they did in London for free shows as well as September 1.

It's the same as any other show, just gives them time to settle in and sort everything out before the press is able to review it. Things can potentially go wrong in a preview, if they are just getting used to the technical elements of the show, but their intention is for it to be the exact show with no problems.

Previews are staged to allow the cast and crew to settle into a new production and fine-tune everything. During previews, the show could be temporarily stopped by a stage manager due to a technical or other issue. It is impossible to say whether a preview performance will be just like those after the show officially opens because this time is used to iron out any potential kinks. When the show actually opens, it will be "frozen" and all subsequent performances should (theoretically) be the same.
Some shows change very little from previews to opening night, while others experience significant growing pains. For example, a preview performance of Groundhog Day had to be stopped completely due to technical issues with its very complex set design; the cast ended up finishing out the show concert-style, simply singing the remaining songs with no set. For perhaps the most extreme example of preview nightmares in Broadway history, Google "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" (I believe the Spiderman Preview Thread on this board may have set a record for longest thread ever).
For what it's worth, this particular show has already been running for some time in London, so the technical aspects should be relatively familiar to most of those involved. They will, of course, be fitting the sets and effects into a new house (anything can happen), but previews for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child are likely to be relatively smooth-running.

So I just entered the Friday forty on todaytix and said they would send a confirmation email. Instead I got a cancellation email. Did anyone else get this?

Same boat. Possible guess is Friday Forty was not supposed to start this week with only the one performance and this special Saturday announcement we should be getting.
Also, FWIW, I got the cancellation email but have the lottery tickets in My Orders in the app listed PENDING. So who really knows?! *confused, playful shrug* I guess we'll all find out tomorrow.
