If he doesn't win Best Actor, something is wrong. Best male performance I can remember. The only performances that come close are Cynthia Erivo and Alex Sharp.

Against the other four, there is clearly no contest!

I'm not sure he will extend but yes, he is definitely contracted through Nov/Dec of this year so you'll be fine.

I remember him saying in an interview that it's in his contract that he won't work on Yom Kippur so keep that in mind if you're considering dates at the end of September.

Thanks to both of you.

If he's said he won't perform on Yom Kippur, it stands to reason that he might not be appearing on Passover, Rosh Hashonah, etc. However, he didn't take any shows off during Hannukah this year.
Not really. Yom Kippur is the highest of Holy Days, second to that is Rosh Hahonah. Passover & Hannukah.....not so holy: not to the point where you are expected to not go on about your regular day.
As a Jewish child, I missed school for only the 2 High Holy days. Still the same as my students do.

I'm Jewish and grew up in an observant family; I'm aware of the significance of Yom Kippur. And I wasn't suggesting that he was going to be out every high holiday--I was just saying that it wouldn't surprise me. I've known several observant performers who have taken Passover off. From what I understand, Platt comes from a fairly observant family, which is why it wouldn't surprise me.

For an observant Jew the first two days of Passover could be days they'd want to take off. I am reform but worked for a Jewish organization and had the first two days off of Passover.
Does anyone know if Colton Ryan or Michael Lee Brown have gone on yet in any of the male roles yet?

Michael Lee Brown went on as Jared due to Will Roland's absence on January 1st. Colton Ryan hasn't gone on yet.
Is Platt in Pitch Perfect 3? They're filming in April.
Ben tweeted just a week or so ago that he has no scheduled absences from the show currently.

Interesting. I think this edition doesn't even have Skylar Astin so not sure how they'll justify Ben Platt's presence since Astin's character anchors Benji to the plot.

I don't know, Dave13. Jon Jon is giving a very compelling performance per initial reports. I was blown over by him in the recorded version, I bet he's quite something live (will find out for sure in a few weeks when I see the show). I did see Ben Platt past January and thought he was absolutely sensational.
Ben and the show have momentum. I barely hear buzz about Miss Saigon. Jon Jon might be amazing as well but critiques, voters and fans have been raving about Ben's performance since last year. The show has the momentum right now.

Jon Jon FOR SURE should have won the Olivier in London. He was sensational, he really was, and I'm sure he will be on broadway. BUT, Ben Platt's performance is still 100x more momentous and worthy and impressive.
I'm pretty sure that I saw a Tweet this week from Ben that he had performed in 100 consecutive shows. Given the nature of the show and the challenging nature of his performance, it's pretty extraordinary. He leaves it all on the stage show after show. Tremendous work ethic.
Many Jews only take off from work on Yom Kippur. I know nothing about the nature of Ben's observance and it's none of my business. He may or may not take of Yom Kippur, which this year begins on Friday evening September 29 and continues throughout Saturday evening Sep. 30. He will make a personal decision, which he has every right to do.

"Platt has yet to miss a show. His contract runs through November, and ticket-holders ask him on social media for assurances that he’ll be in the cast the day they’re coming. This is both gratifying for Platt and just a bit worrying for the production, because a musical too dependent on a particular actor could find its audience drifting away after he departs."

What possible motive would you have worrying about his attendance, unless you are the official hall monitor of Broadway, which I doubt. Get a freaking life.

I heard he's doing Mean Girls the Musical in October in DC, but I'm not sure
