I'm now picturing Stritch leaning close to the monitor, peering through thick glasses, pursing her lips...

I'm sure after about 5 minutes of reading this board, Broadway performers give up trying to make sense of it.
Do you think Kristin is sorry she appeared on The 700 Club just because everyone here hated her for it? Do you think Idina cares that we think her name should be above Kristin's in the Wicked billing? Do you think Sara is concerned that you are mad because she has the attendance record of Donna Murphy?

I have gotten SEVERAL PMs from well-known actors, composers, playwrights and producers of shows commenting on my posts about them, things they're affiliated with or other subjects (thankfully nothing negative from anyone, so far). You'd be surprised who lurks here (one composer told me that "EVERYBODY in the community reads the boards, whether they admit it or not").
So, the lesson is, don't ever post anything about anyone that you wouldn't be willing to say directly to them face-to-face. Either they're going to read it themselves or someone they know will and tell them about it. But feel free to criticize -- as long as you're fair about it and support your opinion, no one seems to get offended (some of the nicest PMs I've gotten have been from persons whose work I have critiqued in detail).
In that case:
Aretha Franklin, you made my ears bleed with that performance.
Oh wait, she's not in the theatre community.
Hugh Jackman, WTF were you thinking singing with Aretha Franklin?!

A while ago, a certain bww poster said something horrid, not about a person's performance, but about the way they have been looking lately. Well, one day the performer's mother was looking up her son's name, and came across this horribly wrong accusation. His mother proceeded to call up her son, and ask him about this. She was very worried, but it was not true, so all was well.
The actor and poster's name will remain undisclosed, but people be careful what you say. Not only do performers read this, but their families do too.
I have received several very kind PMs from Broadway people (no names, of course), thanking me for nice things that I have said. Also, I read an interview with Anika Noni Rose, where she commented on reading posts on Broadway message boards that said she wasn't right for "Purlie". As Margo said, don't say anything here that you wouldn't be comfortable saying to someone's face.
And yet, I've received exactly zero pm's from Maureen. Hmmmmm....

Probably more than you would think. I too speak from experience. It is a public forum, so if you feel the need to say it, keep in mind you have no idea who might read it.
im almost certain if not 100 percent that Greg Jbara reads them!
he needs to come and post, hes so funny, it'd be great. not to mention like everybody likes him so he shouldnt be afraid. lol.

there are also lots of performers who don't regularly read the boards, but have fans and/or friends who alert them when they're the subject of a thread.
a side story: I also post on an opera site, and a friend of mine there posted a negative review of a recital by a fairly famous diva -- who promptly emailed my friend with her comments on his review! and since he'd pulled no punches, she didn't, either! he's much more thoughtful in his posts now ....

I know Cheyenne Jackson reads them...Shoshana Bean REFUSES...and I WISH A certain Charity would read them. She's probably way too busy!
My personal opinion on the matter is don't censor yourself and not voice your true opinions just because you know someone well known is reading them and since it is a public forum everyone is entitled to his/her individual opinion but be aware of the feelings of others and find a mature, "constructive critisism" and intelligent way of voicing any negative comments you may have about them or a performance they were a part of. Again, public forum where you never know who may be reading. Don't lie and say you loved something if you didn't just to please but don't go bashing people thoughtlessly and rudely either. I guess "think before you speak/write" is what I'm trying to get across in that little ramble. :-P
I honestly hope that certain Charity DOES NOT read these boards at all.
Considering all the rude b*tchy people who love to post hateful comments about her. I've even received a PM from a certain Chita fan who basically PMed me something that could be seen as a possible death threat about Christina.
I pray for her sanity Idina doesn't read them. I think she's gets the most crap out of everyone.
I know one performer in the theater community reads them, but doesn't post. She's a friend of a former poster.
Chuck Wagner posted here once, but I think that was just to promote that he was going on in Dracula.
If I were a Bway performer, I would never read these. Criticism of someone's performance or disliking a show is one thing, but some people on these boards can be complete a**holes. Why waste your time and energy reading horrible things someone writes about you? Like the people who (forgive that its a Wicked example) post that Shoshana is too chubby to be Elphaba, or the people who just blatantly outright hate performers that they may have never seen life. It wouldn't be worth it.
Oh and just so some of you know. The stars do see the nasty comments posted. Natascia Diaz read nasty comments about her on here, and she actually posted in defense of herself.
So, some of the stars really do see the nasty comments.
Also, I remember someone claiming to be Carly Jibson posted here once.
Please. I get nastier things posted about me than most of those people.
"Please. I get nastier things posted about me than most of those people."
No one is going to argue with you there, wifey.
If Anthony Rapp or Neil Patrick Harris read these boards.....drop me a line!

I promise I'm not needy...it just appears that way.
