Which is something that can be said about basically every production of a Rebeck play for... twenty years, I'd say?

I sat in K24 (right orch) last night. It's partial view in the sense that you may not be able to see the set of upstage left, but you aren't going to miss any action.
As for the play itself - I found it cute and some of it hit close to home for me as a person who has issues with throwing things away due to sentiment and the review that described the elder DeVito as an "irascible hoarder cuddly toy" is dead accurate. Unfortunately, the play itself is a casualty of it's own disorganized and wandering mind. There is A LOT of unnecessarily dramatic plot contrivances and, just when you think the play ends, it goes on about 15 minutes too long and ends on a weird note. It's diversionary enough if you aren't looking for the next great Simon-esque comedy."
Thank you!
Not expecting much from the play itself since Rebeck's plays are always so uneven, just really going for DeVito as I'm a huge fan and unfortunately missed him in THE PRICE.
I want to preface by saying— I am not a hater. I wanted to like this. I saw it last night (shoutout to the ASL interpreters! not hearing impaired but they are rockstars) and thought this was the worst play I’ve seen on Broadway so far.
Danny Devito was simply saying his lines. Half the time they weren’t his lines, and the other half was him standing in silence when he did drop off his lines. His daughter Lucy was one of the worst actresses I have seen. Pluck any freshman BFA actor out of any school in Manhattan and it would’ve been much better. You’d think if 2/3 of the cast are stinkers, the 3rd should be great? Wrong. I couldn’t believe this made it past previews.
The audience was SILENT. Barely a reaction to somewhat jokes. Mostly laughs at Devito-isms, but the only applause that happened throughout the whole show (except the bows) was about 75% of the way in with a set change reveal. The director Moritz must have been blindfolded when directing this, because I would’ve been embarrassed to put this up. It felt like a waste of RTC resources to give space to a 2nd Rebeck stinker in NYC at the same time… audiences aren’t dumb. They don’t want overpriced crap. 1/10 since the building didn’t burn down.

I absolutely loved this. I brought my mom and we both teared up by the end. It's a simple play but has a lot to say about growing up and navigating parental relationships. Getting to see Danny DeVito onstage was a thrill, after growing up watching him in Matilda, Batman, etc. I look forward to the film adaption this will surely be made into soon.
I just really disliked this play. Performances were fine but had a script that had so much potential to be good, but just squandered it on boring storytelling. I said before the potential was there to tell a real story about what hoarding and that kind of mental disease can do to a family and the children who grew up in it but it’s just wasted here.
As for a film, just watch an episode of Hoarders - you’ll get much more drama and storytelling from that.
So...the night I'm supposed to go is one of the nights Eva Noblezada is doing a show at Joe's Pub. I can't get to both. Should I bail on this?

Love DeVito I do, I would say dump this (unless you can exchange your ticket or go see Eva on another night)

Does anyone know if Danny is doing the stagedoor for this show?

Yes (although subject to change based on how cold it’s been getting). Show items only. Autograph hounds had been out in full force.

Today Tix tells you the seat location before you confirm purchase -- but they've tended to be mainly in the first few rows of the mezz -- great view!
