Some more entertainment.
Bette's live rendition of "Long John Blues ".
My favorite line before she starts... "Going to cost you a lot more than 6 bucks to see the whole thing".
Long John Blues
And one more.

Bette Midler(!) in I'll Eat You Last, is billed as an intimate evening with the recently deceased super-agent Sue Mengers. A pioneer in the field she was one of the first female agents in Hollywood. Mengers dealt with some of the biggest egos in Hollywood, and her anecdotes about them are sure to be insightful and funny, but can Midler sublimate her own ego and let Sue be Sue?

In “I’ll Eat You Last,” Bette Midler reads the phone book, to great laughter and applause.
This particular phone book, the thinnest of scripts about Hollywood agent Sue Mengers, contains only the names of the famous, the near-famous, or the once-famous who were Mengers’ clients or party guests, or the celebrities she wanted to be her clients or party guests....
{Midler's] delivery is the only reason to see this show. She finds the laugh in the lamest of lines.

Isherwood LOVED it!!
"Bette Midler gives the most lusciously entertaining performance of the Broadway season!"
"Ms. Midler, who gives the most lusciously entertaining performance of the season..."
Ding, ding, ding, TONY calling!
Go Bette!
That review is a love letter.

The play is "initially wearying in its superficiality and artifice." Gets better.

I love the end of that review.

Not studying the craft of writing, that's for sure.
He reviewed a bunch of shows this week, ljay! He saw TESTAMENT OF MARY, HERE LIES LOVE, and TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL.
I would have thought they would've sent him to see a high-profile star vehicle like this one, though. They're certainly utilizing Isherwood a lot more than they have in the past.
I think Cicely Tyson will still win but this cements a nod for Ms. Midler.
My guess for the noms:
Laurie Metcalf
Bette Midler
Amy Morton
Fiona Shaw
Cicely Tyson
