Megan Mullally
I'm seriously considering raising 10 million dollars and asking her if she's interested! lol It's one of my favorite musicals (specifically the off-broadway version) and I would really like to see it revived.
Unfortunatly, from what I saw in Young Frank. I think Megan Mullally has created a characiture of herself on stage. Everything about her oozes "Karen". Maybe its her voice or her style of acting but Reno Sweeney would be too Karen for me.
I would love to see the off-broadway version on broadway!

My Vote would be for Megan Mullally. She would be wonderful. She can belt and has sass. And clearly is willing to do theatre. If you could get anyboyd Catherine Zeta Jones would be a tour de force.

The problem that I have with Donna Murphy, besides her absenteeism, is that she doesn't have the power. Reno has to have power and be bigger than life. I've seen Murphy many times and she's a great performer, but I've never seen her play bigger than life.

Donna Murphy is a stunning idea - esp. in the NT prodution that was recently in London. (sally ann triplett was amazing, but is she known to you guys out there?!)
Donna Murphy as Reno is a wonderful idea. Gotham, did you see Song of Singapore?

The Roundabout is reviving the show, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, and it's currently set to be the first production to play the new Henry Miller. And Donna Murphy was approached about starring as Reno, but she passed. Then there was the odd idea of Reba McEntire that they were tossing around for a while. Christine Ebersole asked if she could play Reno, and was politely turned down. And the last I heard was that they wanted Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Reba or Catherine Zeta-Jones would be amazing!
I love Donna Murphy, but I don't know how I feel about her playing Reno.

Her only NY Credit is playing Sue in "Carrie," so she isn't terribly well know around here.
I would love to see Murphy do it, but what about Sandy Duncan? She was great in the 2004 Tour.

The real coup would be casting Madonna in the role she was born to play.
Reba actually sounds like a great idea! I wonder what a bit of country would do to the role. She's stunning in Annie Get Your Gun!
I'm still upset that the 1999(?) Paper Mill Playhouse production of 'Anything Goes' with Chita Rivera wasn't recorded. What I would give to have a recording of that!
I second Debbie Gravitte, Mister Matt.
Here is she, a few years ago, singing "Welcome to the Theater":
