eliza, i heard that too. i loved the movie and i LOVE the choices for casting here! HOW FUN! felicia would be GORGEOUS as Satine...but i would like to see Coleen Sexton i think. she would be stunning. Aaron Lazar might be a great Christian and of course Will Chase can do ANYTHING. Kudish as the Duke! perfect!! and harvey is a great choice too!! fun fun fun!
Baz Luhrman was approached about this when La Boheme (which he directed) opened on Broadway, he said that most likely the movie will be turned into a stage musical but only after Strictly Ballroom (Luhrman's great movie about ballroom dancing competition) is adapted for Broadway, I haven't heard any new on this project but I hope it happens soon. I love the idea of Jane Krakowski as Satine.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Here's my thing with this. I am a HUGE fan of the movie Moulin Rouge but just..can't see it performed live on stage. I think the songs just wouldn't work. Weird harmonies htat only work in the studio, theatrical yes, but enough for a Baz Luhrman movie...not a Broadway stage.
However if it were ever to happen, depsite Ewan McGregor being my favorite actor, I'd probably agree with Hugh Panaro as Christian. Jane Krakowsi as Satine. And I'm liking Gary Beach as Zidler or even the Duke.
COUGHP.s.Ewan can sing on stageCOUGH
"It's a great feeling of power to be naked in front of people. We're happy to watch actual incredible graphic violence and gore, but as soon as somebody's naked it seems like the public goes a bit bananas about the whole thing."
Ah and one more thing. I think the only way Moulin Rouge would work out as a Broadway musical is if they made the music less....movie version and more the Moulin Rouge CD 2. For those of you who haven't heard the second CD, it's a lot more on the piano and violin than a drum beat and computer beats. The piano songs are actually very beautiful.

just to clarify...the thread isn't about whether Moulin Rouge WILL BE a Broadway show...the thread is just about IF IT WERE..who would be in it. i didn't mean to start a debate about whether or not it would make it to broadway. i like LOVE casting and i thought it would be fun to see who you think would be good in the roles!

I'm a huge fan too, but when I first say it, I was envisioning my idea for it to be adapted on stage. Everytime I would watch the movie I would think of where the preformers would be and how the sets would look. AKA I have no life.
I just love Ewan. I would have him, but if it were someone else...Hugh Panaro. I wouldn't have Nicole though...I'm not sure who I would like to be Satine.
Shari Lewis: Did you ever wish upon a star?
Lamb Chop: I once asked Mr. Rogers for his autograph.
No one will laugh as long as you do it well I have faith in you!
Amen Rogue.

it would look like Baz Luhrmans La Boheme!!! i couldn't believe it when i saw the set for La Boheme..its looked just like Moulin Rouge to me.. how about RACHAEL YORK as Satine?! that woman needs to stop replacing and someone needs to create a show for her..she is AMAZING...
umm c&a can I just say how brilliant your cast list is? I think thats all that needs to be said. Who plays the bitch that rats our leading couple out? I forget her name

THANK YOU! at last someone isn't belittling me on this board for my choices.
The bitch rat is "Nini Legs in the Air" played by Caroline O'Connor in the movie, she also dances the Roxanne tango with the Agrentinian - so I say Alice Ripley (not sure about her dancing though) or Julia Murney or Charlotte D'Amboise (give her a chance to be bitchy).
Don't f*ck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo.
