I don't know if something has been said officially, but around that day Idina's contract will be over, so I think it will close

If the show we're closing January 4, we'd already have heard. I think it's gonna close when Idina's contract is up in March.

It would also depend on ticket sales in January & February. The show has been on TDF for most of its run. Even Sting appearing in The Last Ship is not guaranteeing a sell out. It is back on TDF for the end of December & beginning of January . Once the holidays are over, it will be tough sailing even with him in it & he is a bigger star. Once he leaves, Ship sinks. If If/Then can hang on for January & February it will be a minor miracle .

The producers must be fairly comfortable with their advance sale through March 22, otherwise they took a huge gamble by not announcing a January 4 closing and pushing the remaining Idina fans to the show during these two holiday weeks.

I wonder if the running costs of if/then are less than one might expect. They've really lost a lot of steam recently, but if they're still pushing through maybe there is not much risk of waiting till March.
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

I've also been wondering about their running costs, and how they are keeping the show going.

maybe they're hoping to make it to march to take advantage of all the idina fans coming with their spring break school groups.

Shows close all the time. If it closes, something else will go in.It is not the end of the world.

"Shows close all the time. If it closes, something else will go in.It is not the end of the world."
I think that was exactly what you said when Rocky announced it was closing, wasn't it?
It was either that or "f**k Brantley, f**k the people who didn't see it, none of you know a great show. You idiots don't deserve a great show like this. Broadway is coming to an end and I will stop going to shows forever".
It was one of the two, just can't recall which.

The people in this thread seem to be forgetting that David Stone is the lead producer of If/Then. David Stone is also the lead producer of Wicked. He has the money to spend to run the show through Idina's contract.

Successful producers aren't successul because they burn money.

Wonder if this could tour without her
The sets make it easy to tour and using ran over a year on Broadway would count for something out in the rest of the country. Do they try it with a name? If so, who? If not, who?

It's such a New York centric show, I really don't think it would do well on tour, and I doubt Idina would ever do it anyways.

Not that I think they made enough to make up for all these weak weeks...but they had some AMAZING weeks for the first three months or so of the run. I imagine they recouped a fair amount in that time.

Well, at least they got some of their money back. Some shows return zilch.

Menzel is touring this summer/fall, but not in this show. She's touring that brand new solo show of hers, which I can only imagine will be much more lucrative than bussing around the country in an If/Then tour.

There will be a tour according to the Road Company's website.

How do you know her contract ends March 22? I have never been to a show on the last day of the show or an actors last day. Is it anything out of the ordinary? Just curious.

I'm planning on taking someone from out of town to the Sunday matinee 1/11, and looked up the house. It's about 20% sold. A Sunday matinee. I will easily get discount seats or TKTS* that but clearly they have a difficult winter ahead. I'm curious as to whether this show's audience tends to shop closer to the performances. They'd done well in terms of box office during the holidays, but the % of the house stayed in the 60s, which was startling.
*Assuming Menzel has no concerts in January. I thought her priors were all over, but if anyone has info. I'm sure they'd have to post it.

I wonder if they have overemphasized Menzel at this point in the show's marketing. I'm in the Midwest so maybe you see more varied pitches in New York, but the only thing I ever see online is a picture of her and the show's title.
If you're not a major fan of hers, that pitch is too limited. Rapp's Rent association and name recognition would seem to merit at least a little more attention.
