Sutton!
In fact I remember during her Millie run, they were selling raffle tickets for a lunch with her or other stars of the show at the BCEFA fundraisers. I bought a bunch, but no such luck.

I'd say:
- Donna Murphy (she seems so intelligent and kind from the times I have spoken to her briefly)
- Julie Andrews (ummm LEGEND!!!)
- Patti LuPone (Straight out hilarious, at least at the stage door of Sweeney)

Do you guys honestly think these people would be fun to "dine with" solely based on what you know of their stage door persona? I'm sure a lot of you would be very disappointed.

Well I don't think this is a realistic list. Its just fun, no need to get all serious. Thats the whole reason why I stated words like "It seems" or "At least at the stage door". I don't know these people personally so its just based on brief encounters.

IB, I too think this is just a fun list. If I ever won that raffle I'd be too damn nervous to eat anything with Sutton sitting accross the table from me anyway, except maybe after a couple of martinis.

I picked people because they seem intelligent and fun and I've loved reading things that they've said in interviews. I do agree that basing your choice purely off of stagedoor persona could lead to disappointment, but you go off of what you can... of course it's going to be purely theoretical.

Yeah, exactly -- what else do you have to judge a performer's personality by other than their stagedoor demeanor and interviews?
Anyway, my picks are Anthony Rapp and Raul Esparza. They both seem like such intelligent, well-spoken, and intriguing individuals.
Now, if this was "dinner, then bed," this might be another story...

Anthony Rapp, just read his book last Saturday in one sitting! His voice in the book is phenominal. (Writing voice.)
Also, Megan Hilty and Maria Friedman. Both are very kind and generous women who are also very intelligent.

I would love to meet the whole cast of OBC Rent. However, the only cast member that I feel I could have an in depth talk with is Anthony Rapp. I would be totally into talking to him,He is just such a good person but I wouldn't feel at all indimidated. He is articulate, and I feel we would have a lot to talk about without being awkward.
I met Harvey Ferstein once, and he would be a funny dinner companion. :)
edited for spelling.

Julie Andrews, Liza Minnelli, Megan Hitly, Patti Lupone or Bernadette Peters
I saw Dame Andrews leaving a charity event 2 weeks ago. I asked if I could take her picture, and she said "Why on earth for?", I just about fell over my tongue with all the adjectives on why on earth for. She didn't like how her hair looked and put her hand on her head and gave me the biggest smile. It's on my blog if you want to see it.

Three hours in a dark, smokey bar with Elaine Stritch. I want to know where all the bones are buried...

I would pick Anthony Rapp as well. In fact I was thisclose to actually doing just that when I attended the RENT movie benefit held at Symphony Space in NYC before the film opened. They had a silent auction and I bid over $1000 on dinner with Anthony Rapp and when the bids were closed I was the HIGHEST bidder. I assumed I won and when they announced the winner at the end of the night I come to find out that I did NOT win and was outbid by $10 or some such nonsense. I was very pissed. The person who won had some kind of affiliation with the event because she had won many other prizes that night and was addressed from the stage by Cy O'Neal who runs Friends In Deed one of the beneificaries of the fundraiser. I felt very betrayed. I thought mnaybe since the bids were SO close that they would offer me the chance to either have dinner with Anthony and the other winner or even my own private dinner with Anthony. After all it would have been another $1000 for the charity but no such luck. I have seen that done before at charity events but not my luck I guess. I would have really loved to met and had dinner with Anthony. Maybe I will get to meet him at the 10th anniversary benefit. I got my invite and sent away for tix, Wish me luck. I am sure I will be sitting in the nosebleed section but maybe at the party afterwards. Sorry aboout the long post. Interesting question.
If not Anthony Rapp then I think Idina Menzel would be great or I have always been a big fan of Matthew Broderick.
Peace to all.
