No, she’s doing all 8

Ticket sales are not good- I love Bernadette- but if this production does not get great reviews- it will not last- unless they bring in a real superstar to follow Bette- and there are plenty to choose from.

what superstar would replace? doing 8 shows a week?
Liza can't
Cher?
Celine Dion?

Queen Latifah- Reba- to name two- if the call went out- who knows who would be interested in a 6 month stint on Bway- Barbra pulled it off at 28- Emma Stone could do it- Anne Hathaway could do it- Bette was such a perfect fit- maybe it will just tank- it is old fashioned and very broad- and not contemporary in any way- without a superstar to carry it- maybe too old fashioned for a long term run like Chicago.

Depends on who you ask on Barbra. I thought she was obscenely young for the role. I also think Emma Stone is laughable and Anne Hathaway couldn't pull off broad. This requires broad comedy with some sweet subtleties.
With that, Queen Latifah could work, but Reba would be a KNOCKOUT!

Bernadette is not selling will- if she gets raves, maybe box office will pick up. Go to Telecharge and you will see tons of available seats even on a Saturday night.

Never going to happen in a million years, but my personal dream Dolly is Barbara coming in and taking over after Bernadette.
However, more reasonably liking some names being thrown around, especially Queen Latifah.

I did, and I saw the next three Saturday nights all have only a handful of seats.

And Betty Buckley.
And Bebe Neuwirth (David Hyde Pierce would need to come back.)
I’d love to see Maya Rudolph as Dolly.

Maya Rudolph would get me to come back. Peters is fine, but I'd love to see a NAME take the role.

Exactly. Annoyingly, there is commentary (even in online articles) pessimistic about Bernadette’s sales because they are comparing the advance to Bette. She is no Bette Midler, but there is a healthy advance that if continued will be enough for the show to pull through. When I look at the advance right now it seems similar to other shows that aren’t smash hits but have strong starts, such as Follies or War Paint.

You think Maya Rudolph is a name compared to Bernadette Peters? When I mention I am going to Hello, Dolly! with Bernadette Peters people know who I am talking about. If I was to mention that with Maya Rudolph, I'm sure I'd have to finish my statement with, "You know, Maya from SNL? No, not Kristen Wiig, the one from 15 years ago. She did Donatella Versace!"
I'm not saying I wouldn't see Maya Rudolph in the role, just give Bernadette some credit. lol

This production can not afford any of the above names.

Seems like Pink is the only crossover from the endless Hedwig dreamcast threads.

If BP isn't selling that well (yet?), do you really think any of them would sell 6 tickets? I have to admit to thinking that they all are terrible choices for that role. Ebersole may be okay as Dolly on the road, but not on Broadway. Buckley is a ludicrous choice (not funny, not warm, and not her key) and might not sell enough tickets to fill the theatre that The Fantastiks was in. I think Neuwirth gave one of my favorite musical performances EVER in Chicago, but she would be horribly miscast.

Those are all good names and voices, but none of them have the theater chops to pull off light farce. I would put on the list:
Patti LuPone
Stockard Channing
I would pay good money to see either of them.

Faith Prince ? with Bryan Cranston

Oh god, I just recently saw Stockard Channing on “Difficult People” and she looked hideous. Her plastic surgey was just too awful. I could not see her doing this show 6 times a week.

No. Don't do that. Please do not do that. Don't talk about "plastic surgery". I just saw Stockard in London (in person, for the 9th time in my life, October), and she looks phenomenal for her age. She's not fifty. Don't come on these boards (or any boards) and talk about someone's looks when you're hiding behind a profile. If you need a photo, I can provide it.
Stockard is one of the most flawless actresses of ALL time, and you're not going to base anything on something as speculative as plastic surgery that you just 'think' happened. RESPECT her. She's a hell of a lot better actress (and person) than many other actresses that are on this stupid list. If you want to eliminate Stockard from a Hello Dolly wish list, then say she doesn't have the pipes. Singing is the only thing she isn't perfect at. GTFOH with that. IT'S NOT OKAY!

First of all I am not hiding behind a a profile. That profile picture is me in Fiddler.
Second of all, I love Stockard Channing as an actress but don't think she could handle doing Dolly 6 times a week. And yes, she did have plastic surgery, if you have eyes you could see it. (The caption is not mine, it is from the show "Difficult People" where she plays Andrea Martin's coke toting sister.)
