This is a Broadway board stop posting your particular hate here. Clay Aiken has lived up to Mike Nichols and Eric Idols expectations, that is all that matters. So glad you will never work on Broadway!

Clay was offered the role after DHP left, but the timing did not work out until this January.

I also heard that we has offered Macbeth, but was too busy to do it, so they just picked up the phone book and Patrick Stewart was available, is that true? Too bad, with his amazing range he would've done wonders, now we're stuck with Stewart *yawn*

Clay was offered other roles over the years, but Spamalot is the first one he accepted.

Other Idols have performed on Broadway and in touring shows, so why is this so hard to believe?

Um, what I posted was parody, so naturally it was exaggerated, to make a point. Through my eyes, that is how I think Clay is portrayed on the boards, and slightly exaggerated for effect.

Sueellen, I have heard Clay say several times in interviews that he was offered other roles, but turned them down. To my knowledge he never said what they were, though Cartwheel would know better than I.

They announced the new category and then it was made public that no one had won the award. Pryce made a somehow sarcastic statement of how he was sorry for "not being worthy of the award" or something close to that.

Then a publicist for the awards announced that the award was no more, and that the whole thing was poorly planned.

Shortly after Idol, he was offered the roles in Rent and Urinetown, but he was busy performing on Idol tour and recording the first album, so he could not accept them. There were more offers over the years, but he did not say which shows they were.
