It looks as though Matt Cavenaugh, who currently stars in Grey Gardens, has found his next stage musical.
The Daily News reports that the actor will play the groom in the new Harvey Fierstein-John Bucchino musical that will arrive on Broadway later this season. Cavenaugh's agent could not confirm the casting, although other sources told Playbill.com negotiations are currently underway with the actor to join the new musical.
Will Grey Gardens Star Cavenaugh Join A Catered Affair?
*moves into the Kerr*
This news excites me so much!

That is kind of funny that on Sunday he is moving out of the Kerr and then he is moving back in in October.
Except that Catered Affair opens in April.

Sorry I was looking at the Old Globe dates.
I wonder why there is so much time between San Diego and Broadway.
This is such a great cast!
Fantastic news. I'm so happy for Matt!
Yay for Matt!
This show has such a fantastic cast, and I can't wait to see it. I wish they'd move to Broadway faster.
Jujamcyn Theaters has announced that Matt Cavenaugh will join the cast in this season’s Broadway production of A Catered Affair, the new musical with book by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, score by John Bucchino and directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle. Also starring the previously announced Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Harvey Fierstein and Leslie Kritzer, A Catered Affair will open on Thursday, April 17, 2008, at a Jujamcyn theater (to-be-announced). Preview performances begin March 25. Prior to Broadway, the new musical will inaugurate the 2007-8 Season at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre (performances begin September 20th), according to producer Jordan Roth (Vice President, Jujamcyn Theaters).
In A Catered Affair, Matt Cavenaugh will create the role of ‘Ralph Halloran,’ the groom-to-be opposite bride Leslie Kritzer in this musical set in 1953 Bronx centered on a family wedding.

That's great news! What an amazing cast - I'm excited already!
Good for him. He deserves it. Can't wait to see him. Haven't seen him since Dorian.
This news is just too perfect. I may finally have the opportunity to see him perform live!
I have a feeling this show is going to be the little show that critics praise and place above YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. I mean, look at the creative team. These are people who create theatre because they love theatre! Mel Brooks, on the other hand, is in it for the cash. I thinking A CATERED AFFAIR is going to be a fine affair, indeed. I'm very much looking forward to it! I think Matt Cavenaugh and Leslie Kritzer are going to be a fun team to watch on stage. And I'm excited to see Matt show off his comedic chops! Can't wait!
Great casting coup.

Sounds like a great cast and creative team. I've only seen Matt in "Urban Cowboy" (and he went to Ithaca College so that makes him special enough) but I've seen Leslie in LB and her cabaret act in San Francisco. I loved Faith in "Guys and Dolls" and even "Bells Are Ringing" and Mr. Wopat in "Guys and Dolls" and "Annie Get Your Gun". Should be an interesting show.
I can't wait to see him in this. I loved him in Grey Gardens!
This cast is amazing! Can't wait to see the show
he should wear one flea collar on his ankle in honor of the Beales!

Uh, unless I'm mistaken, everyone who puts a show on Broadway for a commercial run is in it for the cash. They're not doing it for free.
Good for Matt!
can't wait to see this...it is on my list of must sees for next season
